I used to get a noise that sounds similar to the one you describe in my old 16v. The noise disappeared when I had it decatted, so put it down a knackered cat.
To be honest, it could be anything that has worked loose and is resonating at those particular engine speeds.
I went to Le Mans in a 182 in 06 and didn't bother with anything for the headlights. A friend took his M3 to BMW so they could adjust the beam, but seemed like a lot of effort to me, plus we didn't drive at night.
I went from 182FF to Focus ST.
As said in standard form there really will be very little in it. Wouldn't be surprised if some 'quick' cups are slightly quicker than STs they've raced, especially if the ST is low mileage. 182 was more fun and arguably quicker on twisty roads.

Looks like it still has the BP Ultimate tax disc holder and 'Bridges of Reading' number plates too!

ALL cars will use some oil even if it's hardly noticable - you'll never get a perfect seal between ring and liner.
Up to 1L per 1000 miles is considered normal although if I was approaching that I would be a little concerned.

Just to wrap this one up, took the car to Bridges of Reading to get problems looked at.
1. Issue with suspension top mount - now sorted.
2. Exhaust had worked loose slightly - now sorted.
All very minor and didn't pay a penny; I was actually very impressed with Renault's service on this...
15.0 @ 94 last February at the 'pod. Only time I've run it.
15.7 is slow for a 1*2, but like you say if you're getting used to it and struggling for grip.......
