Thinking of buying a 197 next, peoples views on them?

Agreed. 1st is too short to notice the flat spot. Second gear approaches to roundabouts would often catch me out though. Flat spot on mine was 2.5 - 3k rpm. On the other hand you could make it pop n bang if you changed gear quick enough in the flat spot which was pretty cool :-)

    Newbie in need of help

When I had mine a few years back I got Fred to fit me some kw v1's, ds2500 pads, brembo hc's, hel lines and a yozza exhaust. Was hilarious to drive. Cornering speeds were immense and it sounded great. I bought some catcams off another member on clio197.net but never actually got round to...

    reliability

I agree with all the posts above. I had my 172 for 18 months and drove roughly 27,000 miles in it and never had anything go wrong until I let it run out of oil, which was my own fault and not the cars. Equally my 197 i've now owned for nigh on 18 months and done 16,000 miles has been great. If...

How do you afford your 172/182s?

I currently I work full time nights at morrisons and go to uni full time as well. Don't seem to have too many issues swapping my car every 18 months, although I've decided to keep the 197 for a bit longer as I've put far too much money into it in terms of maintenance and mods.

    A damn good thrashing!

lol i did the same this morning, usually do it on a sunday morning after work as well. I feel paranoid more than guilty. I don't excessively speed, but I just feel like I'm committing a sin by hitting 7.5krpm in 3rd. I feel guilty because I know I shouldn't be pissing money up the wall, but...

    just bought 197 any good?

Few little niggles I've had with mine: Brake pads seizing in the calipers Door seals splitting Door handles becoming loose Boot lock rattling Seat bolsters wearing (non recaro) Mechanically they seem pretty solid though. Mine hasn't had any easy life in the 18 months I've owned it, but its now...

    'Oil Ok' on trip computer

Yeah "oil ok" ended up costing me £2k when my engine ran out of oil while driving back from a mates house. I check the oil once a week now just to be on the safe side.

    From 1.2 to 197

I did a similar thing - went from a ford ka to a 172, and now own a 197. Tbh the rs clios are a nice manageable step up in terms of performance, as all the go is at the top end of the rev range, so you can quite easily drive it around at low revs to begin with - not that you will lol.

    Longbridge White 200 09' plate.

There's was a chap in a megane 230 doing the same thing the night before as well. Thought he was playing need for speed or something.

    Megane RS hagley / halesowen

:) As per title, unsure whether it was an R26, had the stickers so I assume it was. Sounded the dogs, and was surprised how much little difference there is below a ton.

    Clio 200 Cornering Lights

I currently have them on my 197 and to be honest, I wouldn't miss them. Seem more of a gimmick than anything.

    197 Gearbox problems

Mine is on 50k now and getting progressively worse lol. My problem is going from neutral to first (or any gear for that matter). It seems pretty reluctant and I really have to batter it into gear sometimes. On the move its pretty sweet though, occasionally a bit clunky.

    197 auto lights problem

Ok so the last 2 mornings, coming back from work, I have to drive through a series of shaded areas of road triggering the lights to come on. However once out in normal light the lights won't turn off. Anyone got any suggestions? My car is slowly falling apart in terms of electrical components...

    Anyone know nc05 cxv?

Hmm yea it did look expensive. Its got to be a dealer though as trying to sell my 197 is a complete joke atm.
