Had exactly the same thing happen to me a while ago, changed the pedal and no change, changed the Throttle Body and its been fine since. Got a TB off ebay for £40ish. Get it plugged into a diagnostic machine first and that will tell you.
My 182 also has started making a tapping noise, been told de phaser which i changed but its still doing it, can you post the cause once you know as i have also been told lifters but its a big job to change and ££££'s so any ideas would really help.
No i haven't touched the acoustic Valve Fred, don't even know where it is lol. its weird as itseems to be totally random fault as it does it some journeys , then the same journey the next day it doesn't.

Have changed the throttle pedal last weekend, made no difference so i'm going to take the TB off and clean it all up, i'll let you know what happens. Seems like a common issue though
