Just been searching through the forums and stumbled across this thread... I bought this car about a month ago, so it's interesting to see the history. The car has now been returned further back to stock with the exception of the suspension upgrades. Plans for the car are to keep it OEM+...

I had this exact problem with the knock sensor code coming up as well. It was the HT leads that were causing the problem. I think the misfire had caused the knock sensor code to come up, but I changed it anyway.

This was me on my way to work :D Nothing like a good ragging in the morning to wake you up ;) I've had the cup for 2 years now, always driving down that road, surprised we haven't crossed paths before!

If the coilpack isn't producing any voltage, put a new one in and see if that cures the issue. I'd imagine the petrol smell would be due to unburnt petrol in the cylinders.

Yeah, I did think that, but I have no other reason to disbelieve the story. There is no sign of accident damage on the car, so I presume the insurance company must have thought it was more economical for them to sell it on than paying for it to be repaired themselves. I'll never know for sure...

My car is a cat D, apparently a few months after it was new, some jealous prick keyed every panel. It was bought by a guy that worked in a body shop for a cheap price, he repaired all the damage and kept it. My previous car was a cat C, tbh as long as the repair work has been done properly you...

If we're being anal about it, yes. But the point is getting the car back home isn't a problem.

The only time you can drive a car without tax is either to an MOT or from an MOT; without stopping off anywhere on the way. So getting it home shouldn't be a problem.

I wouldn't be so sure. I used to have a mk4 fiesta (mk5 was just a facelift of mk4) lowered on aftermarket springs and shocks, running the same size tyres you find on a 172 and it didn't corner as well as my 172 cup does on standard suspension. But I guess there is only one way to find out...
