Alexa smart plugs - or others

I'm wanting to put an external ligh on the back garden to flick on when the dog goes out for a lash. I'm thinking of just wiring an ELD floodlight to a 3pin plug and drilling through the wall into the garage. Then put it on an Alexa plug and I can just tell it to turn the light on, rather than having it on a PIR system going off anytime a leaf blows into the garden.

Only issue I envisage is the garage plug is about as far away from the Wi-Fi router it could be, so it may not actually work.

Or soemthing like this one:

Any other recommendations?

I have a lot of Tapo plugs around the house and garden office, great things but the app can be a little buggy sometimes. Works fine with Google assistant, I don't have Alexa but I imagine it works the same. Can also have them on schedules/timers too.

The only smart plugs I have are some cheap Lidl silvercrest ones attached to my hue bridge that I use for xmas lights. They do the job and haven’t failed in the 5 years I’ve had them.

The other consideration is that I have a plug on the back wall of the kitchen next to the window. I guess I could mount the light to that and drill through the wall next to it to put a plug on it. Then it's a case of flicking the switch instead.

We have an Alexa plug on a lamp inside, so decided to have a try with that last night.

Le Bosh.

No to order a decent LED spotlight for the garden to plug into that.

For what it's worth you can change the sensitivity of the spot lights. My cheap one from toolstation /screw fix (I made a thread) is absolutely spot on and never self triggers. Only when Stanley and people go out does it turn itself on which is good.

Had a timer setting too from 30 secs to 15 mins I believe

I wouldn't consider using alexa for that purpose at all

Prison yard is now open for night time exercise at the call of "Alexa, turn on the garden" 👌🏻
