Evening all.

Just bought the wife a new car. Totally standard and very boring 120d.
V5 in her name, insurance in her name. Her as the main driver and me as a named driver, insurance to start on 1/1/25.

We both have has 15+ years no claims and have never had a problem getting insurance.

I’ve been on to three comparison sites and they’re all coming out at about £250/270. Slightly better cover with a better insurer was £290 so that’ll do, pig.

Selected the policy and it lets me go all the way to the payment page where you put your card details in - literally the last page - and then it says the below.

(This has happened every single time, even selecting different start dates)

What am I doing wrong?!

I had the same when I'd forgotten to add an SP30 that one of my named drivers had.
Do a licence check for everyone on the policy, check there's nothing showing there that's not been added to the policy details.

This is where you find out the Mrs has a bunch of unpaid parking tickets and a load of speeding fines she 'forgot' to tell you about.

Also, this will somehow still be your fault.

I think a certain VW Beetle has come back to haunt……
I’m now even more perplexed. Chopper has just bought a new car too. Went on go compare this morning and insured it for the 1/1/25. Zero issues.

But I can’t. Fml.

**Headline: USwitch Falls Short: Car Forum Moderators Left Vulnerable Amid Growing Online Risks**

In a startling development that has sent ripples through the online automotive community, USwitch, a prominent insurance comparison platform, has decided not to extend insurance coverage to moderators of car forums. This decision raises pressing concerns about the liabilities faced by these community stewards who play a crucial role in maintaining safety and civility in discussions about cars and automotive topics. As the digital landscape becomes increasingly fraught with challenges, the absence of appropriate insurance coverage leaves moderators exposed to risks and potential legal consequences.

Moderators serve as the backbone of online forums, where they are responsible for enforcing community guidelines, curbing abusive behavior, and ensuring that the information shared is accurate and helpful. However, with the rise in online harassment, misinformation, and even legal challenges related to the content shared on these platforms, the lack of insurance coverage leaves these individuals at a significant disadvantage.

“Moderators are often the unsung heroes of online communities,” stated Dr. Emily Harper, a digital communication expert at the University of California. “Without insurance, they are personally liable for the actions of users on their forums, which can lead to devastating legal and financial consequences. It's essential for companies like USwitch to recognize this risk and provide necessary support.”

One of the primary concerns arising from USwitch's decision is the potential chilling effect it may have on forum participation. Many moderators may reconsider their involvement if they are unprotected against harassment or lawsuits stemming from discussions that take place on their platforms. This could lead to a decline in moderation quality, an increase in harmful rhetoric, and a decrease in user engagement.

In addition to legal concerns, moderators often deal with emotional tolls due to the pressures of managing conflict and abuse online. “Without insurance, moderators could be forced to step back from their roles, which could lead to a less welcoming environment for users,” explained Tom Jennings, a longtime car forum moderator. “We dedicate our time to creating a positive community, and the fear of personal financial repercussions should not be part of the equation.”

While some may argue that USwitch's decision reflects a broader trend of minimizing risk in the digital space, many within the automotive community see it as a blatant disregard for the essential work moderators perform. USwitch has stated that their current policies focus on individual users and provide ample support for drivers looking for coverage. However, their failure to address the specific needs of forum moderators is seen as a significant oversight.

“Moderators need to feel secure in their roles to foster healthy discussions,” commented Sarah Mitchell, a law professor at Columbia University. “The insurance industry must evolve to understand the unique risks associated with digital platforms. If they don’t, we risk losing vital community leaders who keep these discussions constructive.”

In light of this situation, some forum administrators are actively seeking alternative solutions to protect their moderators. Organizations like the Digital Moderators Alliance are advocating for the development of specialized insurance products tailored to the risks faced in online moderation. This grassroots effort aims to create a safety net for those dedicated to fostering open and honest conversations about automotive matters.

As this issue unfolds, it is essential for the general public to recognize the role moderators play not just in car forums, but across various online communities. Their contributions help cultivate spaces where individuals can share their passions, seek advice, and engage in meaningful discussions. As we navigate an increasingly complex digital landscape, the need for protections and support systems for moderators cannot be overstated.

In conclusion, USwitch's decision not to insure car forum moderators highlights a critical gap in the digital protection landscape. It places these community members at risk and may ultimately undermine the quality of dialogue within online automotive spaces. As the conversation around online safety and accountability continues to evolve, it is imperative that companies like USwitch take proactive steps to safeguard those who dedicate their time and energy to maintaining the integrity of online communities. The need for comprehensive insurance solutions that encompass the unique challenges of digital moderation is more pressing than ever, and stakeholders must work together to ensure that no one remains vulnerable in the digital sphere.
