Gripper Differentials.

Hello folks,

Just wanted to reach out to you all and let you know I can supply Gripper Diffs cheaper than pretty much anyone else, and not just for the Clio!

Whatever they list on the website, I can sort out supplying. 👍🏻

You guys know my reputation, and I’ve lost count of how many I’ve supplied for the clios, so please do spread the word.

Are grippers just dedicated for track day cars or can they be used just as well on the road too?

Grippers are at their best in race cars/track cars, but they can be used in road cars too. It just means choosing different ramp angles and preload settings to get the most life out of them really. But they do require servicing once the preload has dropped below a certain amount.

The ramp angles and preload dictate how effective the diff is in its operation.

Always happy to learn about stuff like this 👍

How would you know if the preload has dropped in order for it being in need of a service?

I suppose for me it’d be overkill, and a Blackline or Quaife would be a more suitable application over the open diff it currently has.

Well there’s 2 ways to tell if the diff is ready for a service:

Your car no longer wants to put a set of 11’s down when you drop the clutch.

You raise the nsf off the ground and put a torque wrench on the hub nut. With the torque wrench set to 60nm, if the torque wrench clicks off, it’s fine. If the wheel turns, the diff is ready for a service - this is based on a jc5 used in a race car where performance is everything.

Can’t recommend him enough. Helped me with sorting my gearbox via phone call even though he didn’t even supply it 😂

I used to go back and forth to my local circuit in my 182 which had a Gripper fitted by Mark. It’s a 60 mile journey there and back. They’re fine but just a bit too mechanical (noisy) for everyday use. And as Mark says, they need servicing. LSD for road use 💯

I've just stumbled on this thread.

I'm looking at Diff's and i think I need a Gripper for my Track Car (basically 95% track and 5% road)

@NorthloopCup are you still able to supply diffs?

Just to note, @NorthloopCup has helped me on lots and lots of things, but he also sourced, spec’d and sorted the gripper I put in my flamer track car.

It is one of the best mods you can do imo. Improves traction in dry and wet and for a fwd car, one of the best ways to improve lap times without needing to be some driving god.

For that percentage, I’d say you definitely would benefit from a gripper diff n

Yep I can supply grippers for any box - if there’s one listed for a gearbox on their website, I can supply.
If it’s for a Renault box, I can supply and fit. 👍🏻

Only downside to a Gripper is that the front wheels and the car for that matter are going where you point it 😂

If they're pointing in the wrong direction during a slide and you boot it, you're going that way.

Soon learn how to drive with one.

So technically that’s not a downside is it! It’s a positive as it makes you step up your driving skill/abilities! 😉

😂

In all fairness, you can tune them with the ramp angles and preload to make them a very useful tool, and you can tune them to suit your driving style.

I’ve seen people run maximum preload (120nm), then wonder why they understeer their way through the corners lol

Aye, power understeer is a real thing.

I've experienced it in the passenger seat of a few cars.
