Whichever has fuel
My Dad has just bought a car off me through my work.
Was my bosses wife’s car. Proper car, nothing Mickey, registered in her name etc etc.
dad paid for it, his V5 came through, he put his plate on the car, new V5 came back in his address along with his private plate.
So all good Paperwork wise.
As he only had 2 months left on the policy he just swapped from his old car to his new car and was going to do the price comparison lark closer to the policy end date. Which he did.
Close to the end of that policy, he got an email from his current insurer quoting £800. He went online and did the comparison stuff and found it for £640. He rang his insurance company and told them he wanted the policy to end along with his relationship with them as he’s found a better deal. Obviously the current insurers (Hastings) said they’d match it if he just let the policy run continuously. Which he did as it meant no more faff. He’s been with them 6 years continuously.
So far all pretty standard/annual life stuff.
Now his old policy has expired (last night) and his new one started at 12.01am today. At 9.30am he gets an email from them asking for clear photos of the front and back of the first page from the V5. He was about to do it and my mum told him to ring me first.
So I’ve told him to tell them to do one. His V5 is none of their business. They’re now saying that he has until 19/4 to submit the V5 pics or they will cancel his policy.
Both of us have read his policy documents and between the two of us we can’t see anywhere from his last 5 years’ insurance - or indeed this current one - that says submitting copies of his V5 is part of the policy.
Has anyone else had this?! Am I worrying about nothing? I’ve never heard of it before and I’m worried that it’s a scam to transfer ownership. But I am an untrusting person.
I’m very high. Sorry for the long story.
TLDR; my dad’s insurers want to see his v5. wtf for?
