Clio DCI 100 Gear Linkage Problem

Car was fine when I set off home from work, pulled off the A1 and the gearstick was floppy and had no resistance. Can only get it into 3rd/4th which wasn’t fun in stop start traffic.

What would cause this to happen? Easy fix?

Aye they're easy to pop back on. If it's a MK2 dCi 100

Look down behind the battery and ECU and you might spot it hanging there. After so many years the cables do fray and just all of a sudden go loose. I doubt that will have happened to the side to side cable though

How bad is the plastic?

Theres some push tabs that usually break off but you can pop the plastic end out and push a new one in

Might be easier to try and find a cable rather than bodge it tbh, it looks worn as f**k 😂
Hi. Sorry to reignite an old thread but I have similar sounding issue on my clio mk2. Garage said cables are integrated to gear lever assembly and will be about a grand to fix. Is there a way to repair this cable?

Many thanks

No worries. They sound like they're pulling your pisser mate

You can swap the cables out. There are 2 coloured cables on the dCi 100. A blue one and a white/grey one. There's 4 torx bolts that hold the unit together and then you can swap the cables. The hardest part is getting the selector out of the car to replace them because you need to pop the cables off, twist and release them from the cable holder, move the exhaust out of the way, take the heatshields off, unbolt it from the car and slide the whole unit out

8200905264 - Part number for the selector unit itself
The grey cable can be had here - Part number 7701479163

The blue cable can be had here - Part number 7701479164

They're different lengths. The blue one in your pic is 955mm the white/grey one is 898mm

That garage sound like they're trying to lift your leg up and don't actually want to help, they just want to make their own life easier rather than looking for the part number properly

Thanks for quick reply. It's a 1.5 mk2 clio 65. Is it still same cables?

Thanks again

Sorry one final question if I may :). I know that picture isn't great, but does it look like it's knackered? Just wondering if it could be what it's clipping onto that's worn instead..
The balls on the selector arm for the gearbox very rarely wear it's usually the cable

I cable tied the selector on my Megane which worked for a while I til I could replace the cable
