Steering column mk1

Hi all, I have the subframe off for a refresh. I want to take the steering column out whilst it is easier to do so and maybe go back to an oe steering wheel and boss. My first question is, do I have to use a three leg puller or steering wheel removal kit to get this old momo boss off the column? The second question is will the column simply slide out the bottom then through the footwell into the engine Bay Area? The third question is I want to replace the bottom piece of the column with a new piece and I am going to have to remove it all to try and pull the splines apart for the bottom pice to go in as it is solid and I don’t see how I am going to get it out whilst it is in the car.

Any advice will be much appreciated.

Shouldnt need a puller to get the old boss off. Put the main T45 bolt back on a few turns followed by the steering wheel then just wiggled it left and right until it comes off the splines. (bolt in so you dont smash yourself in the face with it when it comes off).

To remove the column there are some bolts underneath the plastic cowling and it should drop down, I've only ever pulled it into the car, i don't know if it will fit out of the hole in the firewall due to the mounting bracket.
