Just got a notification that Broadband and phone deal ends.

Usual £32 to £48.

Slow broadband, Landline & Unlimited Calls.

Landline due to having elderly parents and until recently really poor mobile signal.

Anyway came to look to renew. Can get nice and slow broadband & phone line for £23.

But looks like nobody offfering anytime packages. Is that a thing of past? or offered when click on deals as add on?

Probably don't need. Could just keep landline for emergency incoming calls.

Landlines just go through a router instead of the old dedicated analogue line.

I have just started a new internet/phone contract, previously I had slow internet (by todays standards 35ish Mbps) with anytime calls on the landline that (as stated above) is now digital so works over the internet anyway.

My landline was mainly used by the mrs to call her mum & incoming calls from the parents. Plus i liked the fact is was reliable & not dependant on the internet until they went digital!

I found they have removed the anytime calls when i looked as well, you could select a number of minutes. So having changed providers I went for the phone line option mainly to keep my number & am going to try using it just for incoming calls then use mobiles for ringing out. Will save a few quid... that is until the mrs uses it to call her mum for an hour without thinking!

Just double check what your calls and call plan entail. We've not had a landline number since we moved in here nearly five years ago - but my mum is insistent on using one.

Out of the blue - BT (who she's got her services with) came on with a sales pitch, part of which was to reduce her unlimited call plan (at the time was £14.99 per month) - down to a PAYG one at £3.99. Being a salesperson and from what she said, sounding about 20 years old - having a landline now probably sounded to him like swapping the car outside for a horse & cart. He pressed the point that she would be saving £11 per month but did ZERO to check her landline usage.

So, when mum continued to spend many hours at a time on the phone to her sister and friends - including calls with myself, her tariff was costing her a fortune. Eye-wateringly so.

I contacted BT on her behalf and went 'constructively apeshit' at them. Got that changed back sharpish.

I just had a look at what i was actually on with BT, turns out it was anytime but 700minutes, not unlimited which i did have.. wasn't an issue as we didn't use it anywhere near 700 minutes a month, but i've literally just had the final payment invoice for my BT account.

I've now moved from BT and onto full fibre with another provider & just got the pay as you go landline now with the intention of just using it for incoming calls. just need to remind the mrs of that as she'll grab the house phone out of habit.. (even though her mobile rarely leaves her hand lol!)
