Clio 182 starter motor squeak, rough idle, and reviving by itself

Car  Clio 182 Trophy
Hi all,

I just replaced my gearbox in my Clio 182 and got everything bolted up. Tried to start it for the first time and the starter motor makes a horrible squeek when starting. It’s also hesitant to start and when it does, it’s very lumpy. After about 10 mins or so it starts revving. Does anyone have any idea of where to start?

Thanks

How much did you touch the engine? Was it full engine out or just drop the subframe, whip the old one off and put a new one on?

A video might help.

Worth checking the teeth on the starter are same / equal to the old one and that the dowel has been refitted to locate it. As for bad running look for wiring disturbed in the same area, lambda, throttle etc

I'd also check all the earth's especially the gearbox and the subframe, starter motor spade connector and the main wire.

Also, check all the sensors that you touched during box job: TDC, Lambdas connector/wire, main fuse box, ECU etc

Since "lumpy, revs after warm-up" symptoms
