Same experience here, unfortunately. Got the Kit, just needed the software files which need to be provided by Henk / FastChip via email and I never got them. It's true that my car had the older factory software in it so the process was not going to be silky smooth but instead of working to...
Not sure but 200 bph from a 1.6l engine doesn't sound too cut down on power. Also, the gearbox can be a problem and AFAIK nobody is really sure how reliable the Clio's box will be when it transfers more than 240Nm of torque.
I am eagerly awaiting 200+ hp Clio just as a confirmation that the current components (mostly the gearbox) can sustain higher load reliably. (If the power increase is just a software update as many expect.)
Anyone considers that Fifth Gear's "test" a real test? I get it, it is a show and they didn't want to bother with a car with an automatic gearbox (fair enough) but what did we really learn about the Clio from that episode? That it does 0-62 in 6.8 and that it has an automatic gearbox. That is...
The demo car I was driving made pretty decent noise - both from the engine intake and from the exhaust. It was one of the best sounding 4 cylinder cars I have heard in a long time, certainly in this price range.
The colour options as I see them:
* White - seems great in a showroom / when the car is not moving. When it is, it loses some of its appeal IMO.
* Black - the most aggressive colour and usually good looking on small hot hatches but the front is missing the contrast between the car paint and the...
Exactly. I was given a choice between Clio without the Monitor in August and with Monitor in November. I chose August though I will miss this toy a little bit.
Yes I plan to add the red colour myself, possibly using some kind of foil.
I should have my Clio in August. It will be R-Link but without R.S. Monitor unfortunately. Hopefully local dealer will be able to "hack" the software into the R-Link system although I will be missing things such as...
I have driven it (had a rare chance in April). For me, it was actually miles better than Fiesta ST but I guess it's up to everyone's preferences. Both cars have their upsides and downsides.
I am waiting for a black Clio RS and am thinking about giving it the look of a standard Clio with the red packet. It really does look good and I am not so sure about the pure-black Clio RS.
Yeah that is unfortunate but true. Clio with R-Link but without the R.S. Monitor should be delivered around August-September, with a R.S. Monitor I could get my car delivered in November. Which means winter season (tires) here where I live. Not happy about it.
Just watch his Clio video and his Fiesta video. The level of excitement is quite different IMO.
One thing is clear - Clio is a "hot hatch" without a manual gearbox while Fiesta is a "hot hatch" without the ESP off mode. Interesting times...
Finally Chris has tested both cars. I am under the impression that he didn't expect much from the Clio but actually enjoyed it but in this Fiesta video, he sounds like he was probably expecting more. He acknowledges and appreciates power and that there is a manual gearbox but in his videos, he...
What's the price difference in the UK? Here where I live, the Clio is about 20% more expensive when comparing the base prices but:
1. Clio is almost the full spec - the only extras are Cup chassis, rear parking camera (which Fiesta can't have) and leather seats. If you want a comparable spec...
I also think 200T looks much better than 200, if only they offered more colours to choose from (there is this expensive Sirius yellow, then red and that's it for colourful colours - only white, black and silver are left). Every other car manufacturer offers at least some shade of blue which I...
I have ordered black Clio but am really afraid about how it will look in real - no one has really seen other than a Sirius yellow Clio here. Good to hear that it might not be a complete disaster :)
I think DSG has about the same torque limitation but people do remapping on GTIs right? I don't know much about it so I'm hoping someone would explain the mechanics to me.
One thing to note about EDC - it can transfer maximum of 240 Nm of torque. Maybe you can educate me here - does that mean that the engine chipped to 250 HP (achievable with this unit) will not feel any more powerful in lower revs due to the torque limit? I guess it will "only" improve the top speed?
Sorry I did not mean to suggest you have little experience or anything. I just know that I play a lot of rally games using my G27 wheel and actively using paddles all the time (never use the auto mode) and driving the Clio R.S. felt natural - maybe because I'm used to that sort of changing...
John Gordon: Great to see some real-life impressions here! I drove about 50km with this Clio and was not bored in the manual mode so I guess it all depends on how you want to use the car. I agree that if I found myself in auto mode all the time this car would not be for me either.
It can easily happen in low speeds, e.g. when you want to avoid some hole in the road and want to change from the 1st gear to 2nd. During my 50km test drive of this Clio RS, there have been at least 3 occasions where I couldn't reach the paddles. I would much prefer having them mounted on the wheel.
We have only one spec here where I live (Czech Republic) with two chassis options - I went for Sport instead of Cup as from the people who have driven both I've heard they are both very similar.
