Great thread.
I'm currently thinking obtaining parts numbers to change all my suspension bolts etc.
Did you find the part number for the stick with the VIN number etc? If so fancy sharing as I'm after a new one for my Clio.
TBH I was going to leave the Clio alone until the new year but if I left it until after Christmas, it won't get touched in January as busy at work and then before you know it the spring will be here and I may have missed out on track action!
Cheers Darren.
All going well I should have all day Saturday free and I'm off work from Wednesday 20th December until the new year so fingers cross I'll get a few free days next week to get it finished.
December 2017 - Update
As mentioned previously I’ve gone and made a start collection parts to convert over to EPAS. I’ve either ordered or have the following:
Brand New Clio 172 Cup Alternator
Clio 172 Cup Alternator brackets
Proline loop kit
DCI steering column (I promise its in...
Yesterday and today I've read all the thread.
To echo other comments my heart goes out to you but at least progress is now being mad and before too long the car will be up and running.
Just to mirror what everyone else has said.
Excellent progress and amazing skill to do it all yourself. I wish I had the room & expertise to do what your doing.
Keep us all updated.
IMO unless you are desperate for the money I think you should keep, its an amazing machine and a real credit to you.
I can't see something like this loosing money over the long term.
Good Afternoon All,
I'm planning on a few jobs over the winter and one of them was rear shims. At Cadwell it was noticeable that the rear inside of both tyres was minimal which leads me on to my next question. Should I fit shims and if so how much Camber?
This is my current set up...
That's the puppy!
I'm in the process of gathering all the items and I believe @Stuiemc is at about the same stage, although unsure if he is keeping hits HPAS.
In an ideal world I would keep the HPAS however as I only use the car on track I want it as hassle free as possible.
From my research providing the EPAS is set up correctly and all parts are in good working order the feel of the steering is good.
IMO the main benefit is the piece of mind when on track that a issue with AC or power steering will not effect the engine. There are plenty of people who run EPAS...
Cheers Buddy.
Couldn’t agree more about Cadwell. Was a great track, it’s the best track I’ve driven and well suited to the Clio. I found Snetterton a little too quick for my Clio although still a great circuit.
I've already located a 172 Cup set up but thanks anyway, but my main reason for a 172 Cup set up was that I know it works and will be sort of OEM, rather than using a load of aftermarket parts.
Thanks, I'm really pleased with how it looks, understeer is a current problem, in the video I was...
Will do.
All being well I should have all the parts by middle next week and then I should have some free time the weekend 9/10th December.
I'll try and document it as well as I can, as I know it'll help people who plan to do the same.
Thanks for the pic.
I'll be removing the pump etc so the belt will only be running via 3 pulleys.
The belt I'll be running will be the 5pk847, this is one rid smaller than standard so it doesn't catch on the cambelt cover. Thanks to @GrahamS for his help on this.
You can change to the DCI rack as all the track road ends and number of turns is the same however I'm sticking with the standard rack and just changing the column. Like you said all the working are in the DCI column.
Parts Ordered
So over the last week or so I've managed to locate the following:
172 Cup Alternator Setup
Brand new adjuster bolt
belt (cheers @GrahamS)
Loop kit
DCI column
eBay EPAS kit
I've just need to order a new alternator and I'm done!
I had a quick hour spare so removed the bumper and...
Thanks for your help @robzracing
I've spoke to a couple of guys who have run EPAS and I've decided this is the route for me.
I've heard mixed reviews about the Pure Motorsport kit therefore I've taken the decision to bite the bullet and get it done. Initially I'm going with a looped rack and...
