Without trying to sound like a dick, are they good at mapping?

I'm thinking Engine Dynamics, but I still need to source a replacement engine for them to rebuild and also get the car down to them. Trying to piece everything together and get as much info as possible before going ahead!

I've already been in talks with EFI about getting it done but nothing has been set in stone just yet. Engine Dynamics did mention they could get the mapping done but I didn't know if they did it in-house or not. Are they renowned for good mapping?

I'm looking at getting an engine rebuild (as you may know by now) and a set of upgraded, aftermarket cams put in there. I want some that are suitable for daily use but will give a little more power when going for it. I also want a set that won't break the bank! I don't really know much about...

Mine has lived on a track all its life so I suppose it was bound to happen sooner rather than later! I don't think 120k is the cut off point, but fitting a used engine in my car will always be (or at least feel like) a gamble.

It's the fact that if I fitted it all and did everything right, and it didn't start, I'd end up torching the f**king thing.

It's either that or have the hassle of another one going pop a few years down the line and being in this same situation now. It wouldn't be as bad if I could fit an engine myself confidently, I'd just bang a second hand one in but it's the hassle of the whole situation that I could do without...

Due to work rewriting all the duties at short notice, I would have been off and happy to attend. But of course I will be working all day now so won't be able to make it. :neutral:

All I'm thinking with the rebuild is that my engine has got to 111k before going pop, which is still low mileage for its age. If I put one from another 182 in that's done, say, 80k - I might have another 30-40k out of it if I'm lucky. If I put a rebuilt one in there I may get 130k out of it and...

I'd love to get my own rebuilt but I can see that won't happen after reading advice on here. If I can pick up another one cheap, they all seem to be on 90-100k like mine was so that's why I'm thinking of a rebuild. The last thing I'd want is to get a second hand engine, pay to get it all...

Manchester mate. I'd be confident taking an engine out but not fitting the replacement one. If it didn't start for any reason I'd be ringing the scrap man.

I'm only just realising that now! It's weird though as it did a 500 mile round trip that day and performed faultlessly. Then about 4 miles from my house it just went boom :grin:

@bloke That was at the top of the inlet - will that be part of a valve or something else? Something flew out of the exhaust I think as well, would that be one too? 🙈 My gearbox needs reconditioning too so I was thinking of getting that done at the same time. Do you mean the guides on...

I've been in touch with bloke and just trying to work something out at the moment. Is it likely to be both the top and bottom end from what you can see in the thread? I honestly have no idea what I'm dealing with. I've seen recon/new top/bottom ends on Pure Motorsport but they are bloody dear...
