Happened to me in my old BG 182, absolutely terrifying as I was doing ~60 on a country road. Nice old chap pulled over to give me a hand getting the bonnet down and the car off the road.
Wasn't worth dealing with insurance, so I managed to source the parts I needed through CS and eBay. Bonnet...
Not sure I can help with your local specialists being tucked away in the South West haha.
What kind of budget do you have in mind? There are some absolute bargain 172/182's which come up on here and benefit from a recent specialist belt change. My best advice would be to shop around, there's a...
Hi Dave,
It's imperative the work is done by a specialist, as even the most minor deviation in timing will lead to a huge loss in power and an engine which, put frankly, runs horribly. The first 182 I owned (before I realised the importance of cam timing on these engines) had a set of belts...
Admittedly I thought it'd go for around £3000.
It's unbelievable how much attention these vehicles get. My advert has inquires left right and centre :)
Always had a massive soft spot for these, runs in the family I guess as my father owned an 850 & V70R.
Brings back fond memories of my old V60, into which we crammed a double mattress, a set of curtains that looked fresh out of a 60's acid trip and off we went around the country. 190,000 miles...
I saw this on eBay for a short time, very cheaply priced considering, hopefully you've picked up a bargain.
IIRC the Clio sport sticker is one you can purchase from eBay, I don't believe it's origins are that of any Cliosport forum.
Fair play buddy, looks a very well loved example.
Ps. Do let your friend know that my RB 182 will be on the market soon, I was hoping for £2700, however I'll do him a special at circa £6000? ;)
I will be mate, CS, eBay and Gumtree are my best shots I reckon. Not sure how broad the audience for these vehicles is down here in Cornwall, so fingers crossed!
Managed to crack open the detailing kit this weekend to get her ready for listing on eBay next week. Ordinarily I tend to avoid getting too sentimental when it comes to cars, however I must admit, I'll miss this one... a lot.
Fantastic collection Paul, hope all's well your end mate.
The 182 simply hasn't missed a beat since owning it, a real testament to your workmanship. I'm heartbroken to have to sell it, however I'm due to relocate to Dubai in the coming months and can't condone leaving it on my parents driveway...
Everything above is from my neighbour by the way, no sure how robust the science is aha!
If I was you, I would just buy a battery, get somebody to plug it in for you, then if the car still doesn't start replace your own and return the new one for a refund. Could be a few other things I'm sure...
It's worth a shot buddy, if one of the cells has died the other 5 will be working overtime to charge it, therefore losing power themselves. Your story sounds extremely similar to mine a few months back. Turns out 2 cells in the battery were absolutely crapped. £40 and a trip to halfords later...
Best place to start is battery. You can remove the plastic cell covers using a coin (they look like small circles with crosses on). Remove all the covers, look into the cells using a torch and get somebody to turn the ignition. If the battery is duff you should see small bubbles emerging from...
I think peoples suspicions get the better of them mate, it's a huge generalisation but to Joe public more owners = more faults in its former life. From personal experience this isn't the case, my Passat TDI had 11 previous owners and ran absolutely beautifully, turns out 7 of them were the same...
Cheers guys, if I advertise it somewhere in the middle, hopefully it'll muster some interest.
It was owned by Mossy before me, he's done a fantastic job at maintaining it and restoring all the interior parts with genuine OEM (non of this sand down and repaint business). I still a little time...
Bonjour all,
A change in circumstances means it's likely that I'll be selling the 182 in the immediate future. The problem, however, is that I have absolutely no idea what it's worth on the current market. Anybody willing to advise/estimate?
Many thanks guys :)
A succinct summary:
94500 miles...
Thinking back, I think I recall seeing your Megane in for service when Nick owned the Quay Garage in Padstow! Oh how his services are missed haha.
Relating to your comment, the B road between St.Ives and St.Just is always a winner for me.

Albeit it's no longer available, hopefully it'll serve as inspiration for what can be purchased for very little money.
Welcome buddy.
With respect to the engine transplant idea, in my personal opinion what makes an RS Clio so formidable isn't the power alone, which, relatively speaking isn't massive, it's the suspension set up and handling. Obviously sticking a F4R in a 1.2 shell would give you a huge increase...
