First valve re-lapped. Man that took ages. Plus side is that it looks completely baller compared to normal valve:

Hey guys & Dan@SJM Just a couple of things that have been bugging me that I want to get straight in my mind: 1) to remove the crank pulley bolt is it best to rely on the crank TDC locking pin to lock the crank? Or re-install old cambelt and lock the cam pulleys? Not sure which is the safest...

Great will do - 8 lovely fresh exhaust valves. Will re-lap and polish tomorrow. And clean up the head a little more. Now got to cocentrate of sourcing Renault tools.

Valves all out with no problems. The inlets didn't feel bent, possibly some of them had a slight bit more resistance while sliding from the guides but nothing very noticable. Cleaning up the exhaust valves which I am re-using, as show below with a dirty and cleaned valve. Also I shall re-lap...

OK after reading the service manual I think the following are required: - Mot. 799-01 (I think this is a tool to turn cam pulleys) - Mot. 1054 TDC Crank Pin - Mot. 1496 Flat tool for rear of cams - Mot. 1509 & 1509-01 Cam pulley locks Sound right?

Evening all - hot one today! Little stuck at the mo. Head is off the car, and I am trying to remove the crank bolt to remove the crank pulley to remove the old cambelt. So I need a way to lock the crank. Nothing obvious springs to mind, so I guess this is where the special tools start to come...

Righto - ordered all of the engine parts that I need, including the belt kits and gaskets sets etc. The final price was....errrr... yes lets not talk about that... I notice that the gasket set comes with the valve stem seals, is there any reason why I shouldn't replace them? I may as well. OK...

That's a bigger list that I was hoping for - but it is what it is. I'll phone up the Dynamics shop on tomorrow and basically explain your list and get the stuff on order. I'll sort the injector out later as that will be one of the last parts.

I was thinking about just that in the bath! I was gunna ask you guys. Currently the pistons are covered in black scum, I assume it is a normal combustion deposit. I wonder whether this actually affects performance, or is just an eye sore? If it does not affect performance, then it isn't even...

OK well I'll try to remove the most damaged looking one, inspect it. And then we can make a judgement call from there.

Right! Head off. Exhaust valves have not made contact with pistons. Intake valves have made contact. Doesn't look as bad as I though it would. See pics below.

Sorry - OK off comes this head! Just waiting for a mate to arrive with my torque sockets or whatever you call them.
