Re: My new project - 106 GTI
Looking good mate. Wouldn't worry too much about not being cammed loose some weight make sure it's well set up and you won't really notice a lack of power. I'm matching lots of cars for pace with a standard engine.
i made it a pain by not removing the steering arms off the struts once i did that it was all very straight forward. i was always left a little meh with driving it before the first time i drove it hard without power steering i was mega chuffed with it. do it, trust me.
cheers mate i didnt have much time to talk tbh had one chap come say hello but i was in the thick of swapping the driveshaft so probably came across abit rude. i cant remember seeing your car on track defo saw it in the pits a few times tho. ill have to watch my vids to see if i saw you at any...
dont do that mate itll be dangerous. the only time its a issue is when parking. get rid trust me it feels so much more alive. make sure you remove the rack so you can take the pipes and ram off. if you just switch the pump off youll be fighting the ram and all the fluid. its lighter neater...
In preparation for Donington i decided i wanted to remove the power steering to improve how the car drove/felt and obviously save some weight.
After a while of trying to wiggle this out it was a massive relief to see it.
It wasn't such a bad job just tight on space, the car felt a million...
It didn't do too bad, felt pretty capable. In the hands of someone who could pedal a car it'll be all over the big stuff. In my hands tho it wasn't the fastest thing out there bit then I wasn't the slowest.
I did Cadwell on Saturday just gone, What a incredible track. It was so so much fun to drive but learning how the car drove and trying to push my luck with a048s as id never been on track with such good tires or experienced that level of grip in a 106 meant i didn't get much time to actually...
cheers adds only just seen your post lol.
Ive made some purchases in the run up to cadwell this saturday.
Firstly longachre wide view rear view mirror i didnt go for the mounts as they didnt look like they would fit as its a tight fit with the cage. plus they aint cheap. and some airbox...

ive now booked cadwell on the 1st of feb and donington on the 15th.
I'd been considering something a little more wild. Bright yellow or as Ill probably end up using them on the road may stick with white to avoid looking a tool.
cheers guys, got a set of steelies lined up so i can stick some semi slicks on. thinking of doing the usual paint them a lairy colour so any ideas what colour i should do?

I asked how much he wanted and he said he wanted to let the auction run unless I make him a very good offer. Thought balls to that they don't go for more than 350 from what I've seen. Don't see many of the grey ones tho the green accord ones are more popular. Any body got these in a rb cup?
been a while since ive updated this as ive not done all that much.
ive got the rear beam on all brake lines done handbrake cables on and dampers done.
id undersealed the inner arches.
whilst trying to fit the front brake lines and had a moment of sillyness. the car fell off its axle...
part of the reason ive not made much progress on the ralye is a new purchase. a RB 182 daily. a nice motor gaz gold coilovers turinis scorpion exhaust and remap. had to remove the stripes it came with and paint the wheels as they was yellow.
A few little updates, not really managed to get much done but heres the progress.
I had to replace the banjos from the brake lines for 90 degree fittings for the master cylinder a unfortunate expense. so i made the new lines up.
I then finished off my slam panel i had previously started many...

i put the drivers seat in and fitted the harness, also shortened the hose from swirl pot to the pump.
i bought a...
