owners make allowances for a renault to break.... tbh the realiaty of owning both tells a hugely differenct story.
Think of it along the lines of, people expect to wait to longer in KFC so dont mind waiting, where as in McDs they expect instant service, when they dont recieve it they are...
100% agree, if build and comfort (and used vfm) didnt come into it, I would probably gone for the R27.
I didnt want a diesel and I didnt want something just for the commute.
As above we talking 10k more for an S3.
As for engine noise, the 5 cyclinder burble and the pop of the exhaust...
I have to disagree, whilst the 197 is better built than the 1*2 the focus is still better built and considerabley better built imho.
He maybe looking at the wrong cars, but then they were the same cars I was looking at with similar requirements. Make no bones about it, I love the R27. But...
What mods you got on the ST to get to 300?
As above I see 30mpg and drive everyday on the motorway and cruise at 80-90.
55 litre tank - I see around 330 off 50 litres= circa 30mpg.
even at 300miles a tank thats 27.5 mph
Your telling me you are seeing less220 miles of a tank? Even...
Fuel is the main seperating point. Although the 197 seems to drink more than the 1*2s.
Even on focusstoc.com some seem to get good MPG other seems to struggle its strange. The remap helps the fuel economy quite a bit bizarrely.
I think 330 - 350 off a tank is reasonable. I can get it down...
tbh, most quick cars are like that. My 1*2s were same. As a driver you learn what your can get away with. When i first had it I had the ESP kicking in all the time, but now I hardly ever have it.
My ST is far more drivable that my mates 300bhp RS. Mainly because the torque kicks in earlier...
lol at complaining about the build of the ST then buying a meggy.
In 3months I had my meggy I had:
1. Replacement seat cover
2. Air con pipe
3. shock absorber
4. wheel centre
5. CD changer
6. Steering rack fault.
Some of which are the above I had to argue to get under warranty...
Mate you should do some proper reading!!! He is reffering to changing the 18s for 20s!!
The tax band is the same bracket and the insurance for me was identical. At least come up with some decent arguements......;)
Oh and MPG wise on mixed driving probably 70% motorway (cruise at between 80&90) and 30% A roads, I get 325-350 off 50litres and mine has been tuned since day one.
There is no premium for the focus either, similar aged 197s are fetching similar money to STs.
Some of the comments are funny on here, its the first time I have heard a renault being called classy. There is nothing "special" about either in terms of being an exceptional performace car...
I chose between a 197 (R27) and an ST.
Really depends what your looking for, but for me it was a pretty easy choice.
The wolf/code red kit doesnt void your warranty. Just had to make my first warranty claim at 40k and had no issues at all.
running costs are massively different to the...
Saw you twice this week mate, think it was wednesday dinner inside Boots on FP, I was on the phone all the time I was in there and then yesterday late morning up at Pizza Hut.
The KA does suffer particularly bad.... but its a mid nineties design.. think of the rust willies and valvers etc suffered.
There are some really bizarre comments on this thread, how would taking a renault 5 and comparing it to a 182/197 have any validity?
On topic, its a tough one tbh. I...

If you do very few miles a year its a cracking buy as the miels will average out.
As a side note I doe at least 116miles a day to get to work. I am heading for about 35k this year in the focus.
I have to say I thought pradas where ok in the wet, in greasy conditions where they are really poor. We used them at Donnington trackday and found they really tricky in the changable conditions.
