sorted it now ... i went into the setup ip and saw that it was set to auto on the channel setting which ive now changed to a random one ... Mobile now shows wpa2 and ive setup the pass key ... Posting from my mobile now hehe
nah, when i got this mobile the only thing i could pick up was a BT home hub, which had WEP setup, i tried to access it and it asked me for a code which i obviously didnt have
where would i check the profiles ?
removed it, let it find it again, still straight online with no key to enter
took off wpa2 and set up wep, still the same, no key to enter, straight online !
basically anyone walking past with a mobile can currently use my net connection, this isnt secure at all !
when i plugged it all in, it gave my setupd the name belkin54g and told me to change it, which i did
however my mobile is still seeing this belkin54g network, and not the name i gave it, and its on my mobile as "security - open network"
!!!
all the settings i can see show it as WPA2 is setup
nothing works on that IP, ive got the IP of the setup screen but not sure what im looking for
Network Name (SSID):***********
Wireless Security:Configured
Network Authentication:WPA-PSK
Data Encryption:TKIP
Network Key (PSK):*******************
wanted the Netgear but Comet didnt have it in, so ive bought a Belkin 54G for £25 from PC World, so far so good, took all of 5mins to setup
question though, i set WPA2 security, and a key for it, however my mobile has no problem at all connecting to my wifi without a key !?
gonna need something with good signal on it, its gonna be upstairs in our spare room, so its gonna need to come through a minimum of 1 wall/floor when im on my mobile with it
really, thought with them being part of Cisco they would be good
seems if i buy less well known brands i can get an N for £40 !? but if an Xbox 360 cant run at those kinds of speeds no point getting one eh
the Netgear ones seem to be a good few quid more than the Belkin stuff, ive used Netgear in the past and its always been very reliable, their G router in PC World is £45 i think, the Belkin start at £25
their is a nice looking Linksys (Cisco) one for £30 but its only got an internal aerial, is...
no lag when using with a 360 ?
also how much signal loss do you get between rooms, in the pub tonight the main bar was spot on 100% signal, the bar in the other room just metres away was 30% and the restaurant was 15-0%, again not much further
what about this ?
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=224968
all the N ones i see online are about 300m distance compared to 100m ish for the G stuff ????
im on VM cable, i think the 10mb service, i regularly get downloads from good sources of 1mb/sec
so do we think a G+ will do ?..........that Linksys one i quoted lists its speed as 125Mbps
paddy what router is it ?
we can get one for £40 from VM but not sure what spec it would be
what kind of speed do i need to run a 360 through my broadband, if im on the 360 then the PC wont be running games at the same time
so what security protocol am i looking for on the box ?
i presume you have to know a fair bit Tom to get around it, and then you have the desktop firewall to deal with aswell ?
if im possibly gonna be using a 360 on this aswell in a few months, will a G+ suffice or will it lag ?
lol, inside advice eh !
N95 and N96 are p*** poor on battery life, slow as feck to use, and the N96 really should have come to the table with an 8mp camera !.....N96 is dead already, nobody is buying it, not half as popular as expected to be
well i am thinking of getting a 360 @ xmas, would this suffice ?
my mobile lists this:
GPRS Class 10 (4+1/3+2 slots), 32 - 48 kbps
HSCSD No
EDGE Class 10, 236.8 kbps
3G HSDPA, 7.2 Mbps
WLAN Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, DLNA
Bluetooth Yes, v2.0 with A2DP
might go and buy one later, seems like G+ or N ? is the faster kit to go for, but ill only be using this from my mobile, how fast can a mobile receive data on wifi ?
ive used netgear kit in the past thats always been reliable, seeing a lot of Belkin and Sitecom stuff about, are they decent aswell ?
