I have a PC from the states. I chopped the plug off and put the plug below on, used an extension and the Transformer below. Works fine for me

This pisses me off also on my Mac book (Not Pro). It does run very well indeed. Only thing I notice is that it runs MEGA hot compared to OSX. Also sometimes the USB driver goes mental and pings like made at me. THis is with the latest drivers as well.
However you can run MS office suite...

Fish Eye lens for £150 wont happen and you wouldnt use it as much as you think. Useless as a general lens for what you have mentioned above

Will help you find your nearest mast. You need to look for a 2100/2200 capable mast by the way. Not 100% up to date but very helpfull. Bear in mind buildings and valleys hills etc...
