I definitely agree, I've thoroughly enjoyed all the variations I've driven (Mk1, 3 and 4). Sadly seems there are fewer and fewer nice Mk1s around these days
Once the hood was done I made a start on the windows. The spec included wonderfully simple manual windows but sadly the drivers side was a bit stiff and the passenger side was in a real state; when you got down to about 1/2 way this horrible metal grinding noise would start and the mechanism...
The idea was this would be the car I was going to 'learn to spanner' on, I didn't really have a plan or schedule for the car, I just started where I thought best and worked my way through various aspects.
The first job was to remove the seats from the interior and expose circa 20 years worth...
So having not written about cars in what feels like forever now, I have decided to merge my MX5 build thread from MX5Nutz onto the back of this thread, making it more of a general Tom's Cars (a-la-Mossy). So whilst it may be completely out of chronological order, here it goes!!

I look forward to seeing what you have in store for it! Your photo of the Trophy meet made me chuckle - walking back to your car, which one is mine again...
So, the new purchase...
Its a SAAB!! A 1997 900S 2.3L, 5 speed manual, 5 door hatch. And, even if I do say so myself it is pretty gangster. See below photos to justify previous comment:
It was bought off its 2nd owner by a retired RAF engineer who has been living in...
So got a couple of updates to share, some pre-Canada and from a couple of weeks ago and some from the last week and a half or so I guess.
Prior to my leaving, I took the 197 down to Engine Dynamics for a service, was very impressed with the set-up and shall be using them in the future. I...
Wow, glad I asked now ;)
The beast looks epic, I really like that new rear spoiler, makes it looks a little more subtle too.
Trophy looking equally as good, always makes me laugh how OCD you are with your cars.
What can I say about the RB, like others have mentioned, either too much time, too...
Thanks mate. Got the 182 from a company called Analogue Automotive (http://www.analogueautomotive.co.uk) down by Petersfield way. Quite an impressive outfit selling and maintaining Lotus, Porsche and Zenos. Whilst I was down there he had 4 Mk1 Elise in for varying levels of restoration over...
So update time!
The 182 has now sold, interestingly enough a gentleman came over from France to purchase the car and it is now with its new owner:
In terms of other updates, the building work at the house all finally came to an end and I was able to collect the 197. I've only done about...
Be careful with those rim protectors! I fitted those to a 520d before the owner went off on a Euro Trip (he bought them and asked me to fit) and all four of them eventually flew off!! Mind you, this only happened around 100mph apparently.
Like you say, everyone's preference is different and will tell you different things. I haven't tested many different ranges but keep finding myself coming back to the Chemical Guys Hexlogic Foam pads and V Range of polish and compound. If it were me I would probably go in with Orange Cutting...
