    BMW E39 M5 Restoration

Rust is killing Mk1 Focuses all over the place now, even the late ones. E39 sills are becoming very bad news too - used to be you knew the jacking points were usually a fairly easy fix but now the rot is really getting out of hand. :( Nice job on the resto

    My F4Rt Clio 200

Having just moved house it looks like I might need to sell the 200 :( We've got a massive list of work to do and I'm not sure how else we can fund it, can only borrow so much on the mortgage and it's not going to cover it. Not certain yet, still looking at other options, but what a pisser that...

    850 T5-R

Yeah the 850 estate didn't work as well as the saloon, not surprising really, heavier and the aerodynamics were "more s**t" (technical term ;) )

    850 T5-R

The LSD was a bit pants though, was a viscous coupling not a proper diff :( Still helped it get the power down mind you, which it desperately needed. Subtle they aren't :)

    850 T5-R

I've had two 850 T5's, an S70R and two S60 T5's, the engines are just superb. Finding a good 850 these days is getting harder and harder. The saloon does definitely drive a little bit better than the estate, you can feel it's a little bit more solid, but you can't carry many bags of sand and...

    My F4Rt Clio 200

Got a day off work today to chill out before moving house at the weekend, so finally managed to put together some video from Bedford. It's not the greatest quality, I'm changing from my GoPro to a Garmin VIRB with onboard GPS and all sorts of other tricks so next time out I should have much...

    Which networks offer data cap?

Yeah, someone has to pay for the data - him! He can do chores or have it taken out of his pocket money or whatever, he'll soon learn :) Maybe more constructively, take a look at giffgaff - they do a sim which gives 6Gb but never cuts you off, it just limits your speed if you go over the cap so...

How to activate Office on new laptop

I used to use Open Office myself, but Libre Office is getting all the development these days. Open Office is sadly on the verge of being mothballed, there aren't enough developers left working on it now to keep up with security updates etc. Libre is a fork of Open Office.

How to activate Office on new laptop

Yep, LibreOffice can open MS Office documents and save in MS Office file formats too. No problem, hope it turns out to be useful.

How to activate Office on new laptop

I'd download this: http://www.libreoffice.org/ Completely free, open source, just as good as MS Office for most things. If you really want to keep Office 2010 then you can run this on your old laptop: https://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/ It will pull out the Office activation key...

HHO HYDROGEN GENERATOR KIT F4R 172

Indeed. Just wait for the bloody things to pop up again all over the internet when the price of fuel gets stupid again. Load of garbage. Spend energy to break water down into hydrogen and oxygen, then burn it, and somehow that liberates more energy than you had in the first place, despite all...

Any reason to keep stud conversion over bolts?

That's true, with bolts you do need to check and possibly re-torque them after each session.

Any reason to keep stud conversion over bolts?

The car is pretty much only used for track days and the occasional weekend bit of fun. What's the advantage for track use?

    Laptop advice, heavy processing.

Does it have to be new, or just new-to-you? If the latter I'd have a look at used Dell Precision machines. Bought by a lot of corporates, values not that great because to most of joe public they're just a laptop but they're built like battleships and tend to have good specs. My current machine...

My Renault sport clio rs200 storm grey

I prefer the clean look, but each to their own. I'm biased, but SG is definitely the best colour for a 200 ;)

Any reason to keep stud conversion over bolts?

Just wanted to check I wasn't missing anything obvious, I've been known to be a bit "special" at thinking things like this through in the past ;)

Any reason to keep stud conversion over bolts?

I've got a stud conversion on the 200 which is starting to show it's age, certainly a good few years old now and there's a fair amount of surface corrosion taking hold. I've been looking at replacing them, but TBH for my purposes I don't see any particular advantage in running studs over bolts...

    My F4Rt Clio 200

Got to get at least one wheel in the air ;) My new personal favourite picture, love the reflections and the little bit of tyre smoke from the front left. The car was genuinely faultless all day, absolutely brilliant fun to chuck about. Was a bit of a shame about the weather, my quickest lap...

    My F4Rt Clio 200

Chuffed to say that after giving it a thorough workout at Bedford today the car was absolutely faultless. Shame it's nearly October really, trackday season is damn near finished. Got some decent video and some really good photos so I'll get some posted up.

Somebody speaking out of their bum

Probably trying to pass it off as a Gordini but that was only on the 200

Sleeping with phone next to bed

There have been a lot of extensive studies done on mobile phone radiation which have found no issue at all. Electrosensitivity is horrible for people who have it, but all the evidence shows it's psychological.

How to remove cruise control buttons?

Yeah it's an absolute sod, the horn frame will need to come out or you won't have the access IIRC.

    iPhone 7

I'll stick with my SE I think, the seven is nice and all, but honestly phones are just about incremental improvements these days. Unless there's a massive leap forward in battery tech there's a limit to what they can do and still keep a day worth of battery life. Until my phone starts to show...

    Insurance modification

Sounds like whoever you were speaking to was an idiot and mixed up options with modifications. Try Greenlight too if you haven't already, incredibly cheap for modified stuff in my experience.

    laugh out loud

That's funny, because I think that's what makes it possible to enjoy on the road :) Much less insulating that most other cars, it's raw and involving. That said, I wouldn't fancy running one as a daily driver, so from that point of view I guess it is pretty crap as a road car.
  28. charltjr

    laugh out loud

Definitely know what you mean, not many cars out there that you can genuinely enjoy on the public road, Clio 1*2 is one of them though.

    Help with my failed MOT.

Can't quite believe I'm explaining this but the wheel is the metal bit that sits inside the rubber bit, which is the tyre. Changing the tyre does not mean the wheel gets changed. If you've a badly damaged wheel as the MoT says you have then that's a safety hazard because it could crack...

    Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

Yeah people are up in arms about it, but from what I've read the game is perfectly balanced and you don't need to spend a penny on in-game purchases. Non-issue. Still, f-ing management teams, shoehorning micro-transactions into everything "because".
