Forest,
My reg is X**CDT and Ive got an EVO sticker in the rear window (I know, I know, the shame of it... ) Im working in Nottingham at the mo but Im often around Chesterfield (Ashgate/Brampton/Newbold) at the weekends seeing the folks... Dont know if thats anywhere near you?
I flash and...
Im from Chesterfield too... Dont see any 172s driving around with ClioSport.net stickers on though. Have to arrange a mini-meet or something one weekend?

Craggy,
Is that Reg Vardys in Sheffield? - I think theyre pretty good overall too: I bought my car from them a couple of years ago... Whenever theyve f*cked up theyve had the balls to admit it and get the problem sorted, which is a lot better than the other garages Ive been to that damage...

Gutted mate. At least your old man can try and get them to sort it out (and compensate you for the grief I wouldve thought too).
I cant understand how dealers can be so sh1t yet think theyll get away with it. w*nkers.
Matt
Engine problems is the usual line I believe!
I heard that he (Rob Collard) was getting around 230bhp from the engine, but that it was mega-unreliable and (as it is a small team) they cant afford to have spare parts laying around. This is a shame because when its working, its chuffing quick...

TheMonk,
Dunno mate, but I got seriously hammered by them for a SuperChip and K&N - about £130 extra - which is frankly taking the p*ss for the difference they make!
£20-odd quid for wheels sounds good value though!
Matt
Thanks everyone!
If the PI springs should be okay, then I think Ill just get them and fit them myself (Im reasonably adept with a tool in my hand... that makes me sound like a p**n star, sorry) ABP Motorsport can supply them for £87 apparently, so theyre quite cheap really.
BTW: Renault...
Okay, I finally got a new job so thought Id treat myself to some lowering springs. Im after a drop of around 40mm front and rear. The problem is that I cant find a good range of manufacturers for this drop:
- Eibach do a 30mm drop Pro-Kit which (after speaking to John at Demon Tweeks) appears...
Hi Chuckie!
I had a similar problem with my old RSi 1.8 8v, eventually tracked it down to the starter motor. Replaced it and all was well... until it did the same thing again. So I replaced the starter motor again and also replaced the missing starter motor heat shield that had caused the...
Chun,
Ive been looking at the same system - is it the 4-inch round Imola? Have you any pics/wavs and would you recommend it for someone who does a fair old bit of motorway driving?
Thanks mate!
Matt
Looking at some random links I noticed this side-on shot of a 172mk1 - it looks nicely lowered (not by too much, but the wheels seem to fill the arches now).
Does anyone have any idea how much this would be lowered by...

Sorry to semi-hijack this thread but Rob Collards 172 whooped some production class booty at Brands Hatch and we dont appear to have mentioned it... Well done Mr Collard, 2nd place in the sprint race, 1st in the feature race.
And yes, I would also like his engine, but doubt I could afford it...
Im thinking of lowering my 172 mk1 and was interested by this post, but Im a bit of a r****d when it comes to suspension, so... (dumbass questions ahoy!)
- Are the Konis just shocks - ie, youre still using the PI springs?
- If so, how does adding adjustable shocks make it lower?
- How...
Id be interested in the same thing - I dont want a motorway drone, but something that sounds better than the engine whine you currently hear when I rev it!
Any ideas anyone?
Matt
Cheers Mate! (off to check out the pics now...)
So do they replace the standard springs and shocks then?
Any idea roughly how much the Bilstein parts would be - I cant find anyone who sells Bilstein stuff for a Clio 172.
Matt
Im looking into lowering my 172, but dont want to lose the pliable handling, or make it too uncompromising on the limit of adhesion. Ive heard that coilovers would be the best solution for this. But what are they?
