    Phase 1 Renault 9 Turbo

Got a bit over-excited / ambitious and decided to deal with the rear slam panel thats been rotten as s**t since the day I bought it in 2002. I picked up a new panel to replace it probably 8 or 9 years ago and never did anything with it, so I thought feck it, why not...

    Phase 1 Renault 9 Turbo

After consideration, because this runs 2 lines from the master to the rear, so not that simple and you wouldnt want two manual valves at the back on the separate lines. Looks like i'll have to retrofit something as I havent found a new bias valve or rebuild kit yet.

The rear bias compensator isn't looking too hot! Out it comes So this is going to need a replacement or a rebuild lol Might just fit a manual load valve, or, just hoof a t-piece in there. The rear brakes are shoes so its not exactly going to be locking up every time I touch the pedal!

    Phase 1 Renault 9 Turbo

Speaking of the car, I did some more work in prep for the axle refit, in doing so I found a lovely hole around the filler neck buried under 30 years of mud and grot I cut away the mangy bits and then treated the inside with Bilt Hamber. Considering the amount of hassle i've had with welding...

    Phase 1 Renault 9 Turbo

A little research into the handbrake cables revealed they are routed through the axle so I had to drop the hubs off to route them in and through the back casing Easy enough, back together again and made up a brake line too Dropped the other back plate off, routed the handbrake cable and...

    Phase 1 Renault 9 Turbo

I managed to squeeze in about 2 hours in the garage over the entire 4-day BH weekend, so I did a bit of tidying and a little bit on the axle. Decided to redo the thread/nut on the handbrake mechanism, as I didnt want to weld the nut on, so I drilled through the spring holder thing and bolted it...

There's a myriad of tales like that on the web, including the woman that had a low oil warning, so refilled the engine with oil. All the way. To the oil filler cap

....besides the choke pull will still be there for my handbag anyway ???

    Phase 1 Renault 9 Turbo

Mate, i'm 41 years old, I only have (assuming I make it to average life expectancy) about 360,000 hours left to live. I do not want to waste any of those trying to cold start/hot start/set idle/set mixtures/generally f**king about with 40 year old carb technology when for a fairly low amount of...

    Phase 1 Renault 9 Turbo

Yes mate the 9 or 11 Phase 2 disc axle or the Renault 19 disc axle is a straight swap with associated ancilliaries, but I decided I wanted to keep the original hubs and a decent handbrake. This will never be a balls out performance car, just an old skool cool motor that you dont see around any...

    Phase 1 Renault 9 Turbo

I had to punch the pin out, then tap a thread on it and fix it in with a nut - I was fecked if I was hunting down the EXACT right shoe or EXACT right fitting pin Once i'm sure it's all right i'll dab a bit of weld in the middle of that nut to make sure it doesn't drop off. I sized it up on...

    Phase 1 Renault 9 Turbo

Sunday I had the 'chore' of a round trip to south wales to pick up a Megane 225 package to dump in my 197. Hmmm.... it would be fun, wouldn't it? Anyway, once that was done I did a bit of the back axle, wizzed a knotted grinder wheel over the hubs Dusty! Coated with bilt and left to...

    Phase 1 Renault 9 Turbo

Started prepping the new tank I got from Big Steve, as it had some surface rust. Quick squizz with a wire wheel and treated with bilt. Thats better. I'll paint it too but first I need to make sure the inside is clean and treat the little bits of surface rust inside....problem...

Does dimpling intake ports work? (No)

If you fancy a good nerd session the posts from "PumaRacing" on this thread are very interesting. Bit of reading for your next lunchbreak/skive/poop :D https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=66&t=1087429

Does dimpling intake ports work? (No)

Going back a few years but i'm pretty sure I read some research on this and it was determined that there was no benefit in a port, and that dimples only work on a golf ball because they create a thin turbulent layer of air that clings to the ball's surface allowing the smoothly flowing air to...

    Phase 1 Renault 9 Turbo

Slightly irrelevant but I was forced to go to Cadbury World (not so much a novelty when you work for Cadbury in Bournville) and amused myself with some chocolate art. Then some parts arrived, not usually worth posting but i'm loving the retro/old skool boxes lol :D Asbestos free! So...

    Phase 1 Renault 9 Turbo

Oh...yeah, the rear axle is on hold because both the wheel cylinders are wrong (bolt spacing wrong) and the handbrake shoes are wrong (right diameter, wrong fittings in the metal shoe body) F**ks sake! Stupid old cars and idiot ebay listings. I mean, I'm grateful new stuff is still available I...
