    20vKarlos' - Renault Clio 172 - Track Car Project - Possible Disaster

I hate to be 'that guy' but, if you buy another shell and its a different colour, I'm in dire need for an iceberg rear bumper.

Installing Cruise Control on a 172

@Vaughan Mines an early 172 without ESP. I bought a panel with the ESP button thinking it would be as simple as plugging it in but nothing happens. Any ideas?

    ITG filter oil

Thicker oil sometimes messes with MAF's, I don't know if this is the case for clios. I use the K&N spray on stuff or just regular ATF. I've used the k&n oil before and it was the same viscosity as most ATF's but it was a little 'stringier' if you get me. A few years ago I done some research into...

    Squeaking belts/pulleys

The rubber around my crank pulley is a little broken and cracked. I'm getting what sounds like a suspension squeak eveytime I hit even the smallest of bumps buy now I'm thinking it could be this. I'm guessing this can't be done without doing all the belts? My dephaser and belts were only done...

    Cambelt/dephaser recommendations

You need the timing tool which is what stops most people as the genuine ones are quite dear. Ps: Blegh.

    20v clio

Ah I see now from that picture. Looks like a great fit. Was the wiring simple enough? I thought this pic was the finished engine bay pic: and wondered why you had no slam panel or radiator lol. My mrs has a 20v 1.8T Polo GTI with a few mods and a stage 2 revo map and it's stacks of fun. It...

    20v clio

Excellent. Must catch a good few people out. Any info on the difficulties with the conversion? Will it MOT like that without the front slam panel? If you're tracking it, id look in to fitting a strut brace or something to give the front end some added rigidity.

    Love those wheels.

The Fatty's KTEC alternative induction setup that works just as well!

Well, in order to quiet mine down I spent £45 on a K&N filter. It sounds quiet up until about 5k RPM then sounds almost like the Ramair. Dare I say it feels a little sharper too. All in all I'm pleased. Tight fit, but I much prefer it.

Anyone else had problems with RS tuner & Fastchip?

For the sake of 6 hours driving, I'd 100% get EFIparts to do a custom map.

Anyone else had problems with RS tuner & Fastchip?

I can/could. I was just offered one at £70 and thought I would ask on here if second hand units are still to be avoided.

The Power PC Thread [f*ck off consoles]

Where did you get it, if you don't mind me asking? That was cheaper than buying the parts separately.

    Tyre Pressures long distance

Increase? Surely when a tyre is used over long distance, it heats up and the air expands. I wouldn't worry personally but when I'm at the track I usually always air the tyres down because when I pit they're usually 5-10psi higher than when I started.

Anyone else had problems with RS tuner & Fastchip?

£199 return or £109 single crossing. It's 3 hours (or 8 if you go Dublin - Holyhead) each way too. I done it a few weeks ago when I picked the 172 up in Loughbough and drove the 6 hours to Stranraer. T'was a long day and not something I'd like to do again in a hurry, lol. Looks like I'll just...

Anyone else had problems with RS tuner & Fastchip?

It wouldn't be economically viable to pay <£500 (Mapping & boat. <£600 if I needed a hotel) to put a map on a pretty standard, daily driver worth £1500 tops. If it was a track toy or something I intended to keep long term I may have considered heading over to England. I understand that...

Anyone else had problems with RS tuner & Fastchip?

229 with the map and OBD2 cable. Think I'll give it a miss then. I've heard Henk can be a bit weird about unlocking and sending the generic map to second hand units. Plus, I can't get 98oct fuel here in N. Ireland. I'll ask on a local forum who might be able to map it.

Anyone else had problems with RS tuner & Fastchip?

Is this still something to avoid? there isn't a decent renault mapper here in Northern Ireland so I was thinking of just getting a generic file from Fastchip. I can get an RS Tuner for £70. That means once I unlock it and buy the file the map is still only costing £140ish.

    20vKarlos' - Renault Clio 172 - Track Car Project - Possible Disaster

If you're ever curious I'd pay attention to page views instead of comments. I know I read a lot of project threads and don't comment but still gain vast amounts of information from them. Hopefully all your hard work pays off when you get it round a few tracks :D

Ah, I see. I like the design I just wish it was less of a sack. For the price it's hardly worth getting bothered about. I'm sure I'll find a purpose for it. Thanks for the offer of a refund though.

    Cliosport.net seat covers.

I bought this 172 as a cheap runabout, something I didn't have to care about but I promptly fell for it. I still need to use it as a daily driver but I'm slowly trying to bring it back to a presentable state and I've spent far too much on it already. The car has 123k on it but the driver's seat...

The soundtrack is really immersive too. I enjoyed the game and it isn't something I would usually play.

    Bye bye car :-(

As said above, it changes your power band. Instead of the VVT 'kick' at 5k RPM on an N/A 1*2, a boosted 1*2 will build torque and power from much lower in the rev range. Depending on a lot of variables of course like who size of the turbo, who mapped it, what purpose it's been made for etc...

Jesus, wasn’t expecting flak for trying not to get my seats bogging every time I hop in and out in my grubby clothes. It won’t be on all the time... in fact, it’s such a bad/loose fit that I doubt it will stay on even if I wanted it to.
