The old 3.2 used to suffer with chain stretch. This could be the problem with the newer engines too. Possibly the tensioner hasn't auto adjusted correctly (become stuck) and the chain has jumped a tooth or two on start up. Continuous attempts to start would damage valves if the crank and cams...
