Unless you have major mods then a generic map is good enough. There will be minimal gains. Just strip your cars out or upgrade brakes and suspension if you want to go faster.
I base all my mods on £50/bhp.
£1000 can get you just under 200bhp, approx 20bhp gain.
Individual throttle bodies, £2500, 50bhp gain.
Turbo, around 6k+, 120bhp gain.
very rough estimation, but I use it as a good indication as to whether a modification is good value for money.
An update:
The turbo wastegate was not sealing so everything was getting a bit hot and didnt boost up very quick. Now have a new turbo exhaust side housing and the thing is a rocket again. Also had to get some decent studs, washers and locknuts to hold the turbo on as the bolts kept loosening...
You might be able to just put a relay in place of the leds, wire in 12V to one end of the relay and the other to the leds.
All depends on the switch on voltage of the relay.
I rate ktec very highly, but would always go to Paul with my car as it has the turbo and needs a custom written map.
For standardish cars with little mods ktec would be best value for money.
yes, it was a bit strange to start with, but I got used to it. Didnt have to tilt my head much, but was always wondering about the legality of having the sunvisor down all the time.
I also loved the fact that you didnt have to remove anything from the car as it was completely hidden.
Definitely, for proper custom maps in the uk, Paul has been recommended by alot of tuners on the forum.
There may be other people who can map aftermarket ecus, but Paul is one of the best with the renault ecu.
I used mine in this position for quite along time and I had no problems, if anything the sat nav improved my driving as I could see the road layout ahead and see how tight the next bend was.
I thought for aftermarket ecu's you just bought a ready made loom, disconnected all sensors etc from the factory ecu and plugged into new loom, job done. How can it be any easier?
