I've owned a 197 before, it was a good car but.. Wouldn't have another.
If I had 7000 to spend from those options I'd be going for an R26!
Outside of those options I'd be looking to find the best MK1 Ford Focus RS 7k can buy you !
I have a whining for a minute or so when starting on a cold morning.. I thought it would just be the oil pump in the sump working a bit harder due to the increased Viscosity of the oil.
My completely perfect 26000 mile, 1 lady owner 197 did the exact same. So it can't be a bad thing!
Will no doubt be the clamp holding the rear box to the centre pipe. I'm battling with mine, what type is the clamp? Your usual crappy U-Bolt will not be up to the task with stainless steel.
You need a stainless steel Mikolar style..
Didn't think the 98Ron map would be anymore crackely..
I'm looking into buying a New RStuner box, which apparently comes with Liscense and 98Ron map so I'll buy the pops and bangs map as well. Literally for the crack, an when I no doubt get tired of it I could easily slap the 98Ron map back on..
I was kinda hoping the RON98 map on the RStuner boxes offered a little more of a crackley sound that the standard map. But they run pretty clean so I doubt it.
Obviously they offer the pops and bangs map as well but... Nah.
My K-tec stealth with Decat gives a good muffled crackle sound when blipping the throttle and the ocasional bang/pop when winding on pretty hard. Very good sound to be honest just a shame it fits the car like complete s**t.
I know there's plenty of threads on tyres, but RE050's never really seemed to get challenged. I fancy sticking to 195/45R16 size so that limits my options!
Its really between PS3's/Pzero Nero's/or the RE050's
Only I can get hold of a pair of the RE050's for a pretty good price!
I went from 197 to 172 cup and as far as MPG is concerned there is actually a decent difference! About 10 Mpg..
As said If I was to 'upgrade' I wouldn't be looking for a 197, something totally different. I liked my 197 for various reasons, incredibly easy to drive fast was one of them! But for...
It depends mate, doing a belt change doesn't necessarily mean they've changed the dephaser as well! An yeah it's a pretty big job, it's the Cambelt etc off again..
It could may well of had the belts changed but listen once the engine is hot for a rattle sound (makes the engine sound border line diesel) eminating from the top of the engine on the Cambelt side whilst ticking over.. This is indication the Dephaser pulley needs replacing.
Errrrrrr also under...
You should easily find a nice 172 Cup for £2000, an as said drive sensibly you will not notice the lack of ABS. Even pushing hard I've never locked up.
My 197 was fairly poor on MPG compared to my current 172 cup, so if MPG is large factor in your decision I would probably recommend the latter and opt for a nice 182 with some change left over.
