They do ideally constantly need to be connected to a phone line to save a lot of fuss! Sky send a pulse down the phone line randomly if they find that you have multi room and the 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc box isnt connected then they will bill you for 1, 2, 3, 4 etc boxes.
