Ah right, genius never though of that!;)
Sounds tempting re: the Dastek dealer, may well give it a go if I decide to keep the car!
P.S.Why do you not use MSN anymore?
I used to run Optimax in my 172, I found it was a bit of a hit and miss, one day it would run well the next like a dog! I also noticed that I would have problems starting the car after a wee blast.
So I changed over to Texaco SUL, now my 172 runs perfectly everyday, feeling every bit as quick...
Rich, that has to be a miss print, I have an EVo subscription and I would have remembered the test where it got 6.0. I do remember tests with the GSi included but never as pacey as that. Just looked at a new EVO and right enough it does have 6.0 printed, but it cant be right! Its only 160 p/w/r!
I wouldnt dismiss the Cup as quickly. After about 2000/3000 miles, your car is going to be rattling and creaking more than a thing that rattle and creaks a lot, so a little less sound proofing is going to drown that out.
Also 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear in the Cup is noticably faster than the...
The Astra GSI is not 6.0 to 60, nowhere near it, it has a inferior p/w/r than a 172!
The 888 was a very limited edition model, I think only 100 rolled off the production line.
The quickest I have seen the R tested to 60 was 6.5. However it is the ingear times where it really shines, beating both the new new WRX and new S3 in gear, all be it by a small margin!
Im siding towards the R as my next car, its either that or the MK1 V6!
However this will be arriving on...
To be honest mate if Renault really cared about these faults they would have fixed them between each generation of the 172. For instance the exhaust rattle, the rattling passenger seat and the airbag light fault would have been addressed! They didnt bother their arses!
Bloody rip off Mo, 6 quid to get in an £15 for unlimited runs.
Whys that a rip off I hear you ask? The roads going to the strip and coming back round to the strip are terrible, pottholes and stones the sze of yer hand. No money or effort put into to it!
Tim, why the Golf Ani?
The Cupra R is quicker and more tunable and has better handling, apparently. Just a thought!
My bro got a 14.8 in his Cup at Crail, notoriously harsh this year on times!
OK then mate,
Cupra - 1.8 20vT - 180BHP - 0-60 7.7 - 0-100 21s
Cupra R 1.8 20vT - 210BHP 0-60 6.5-7.2 - 0-100 17s
In other words a standard Cup will walk all over a Cupra, not so a R!!!
