here's a pic (borrowed from M1TCH...).
The arrow points to where you need to wedge something, between seat and trim.

My driver's seat used to creak summit rotten. I traced the noise to a piece of trim fixed to the right hand side of the seat. When driving if I put my fingers between the seat and this trim, which hurt a bit, the creak stopped.
Was on my way to ASDA at the time, and at the till I found a...
i get a quiet creak at slow speeds, for instance when pulling up at the side of the road at lights or to park. My 172's suspension all looks fine, and my exhaust is new... Is doing my fecking head in.
Any ideas, or is it the torsion bar?
phone Stealers, give em your reg and get a part number. Then give somewhere like Eurocarparts, GSF or CES UK a call. CES just typed in my part number and gave me my brake pads.Avoid paying the stealers and Halfrauds any money unless you really have to.
Rang up CES UK for some rear brake pads as mine had worn down to the absolute minimum (was just starting to hear a rough noise under braking), chap said there were two sets, and was unable to tell which was which. Both cost £10.68 and £10.80.

THIS SHOULD BE A STICKY.
I changed mine two days ago.
If you're fitting a cat as opposed to de-catting run the car at fast idle for 10 mins or drive carefully for 8 miles after fitting.
Mine smoked and stunk for...
yeah it is, i've made this mistake myself. But in this case it loses settings every time it loses a live feed.
Why would it only lose settings 5 or 6 times (unless that's all the times you've used the car)?
i rate 6x9s in the rear, un-amped or without a sub eating your boot space.
For the money and ease of fitting you really can't beat a set of 6x9s and a stealth shelf.
I dismantled it all myself but had an ageing stepfather do the dangling over the engine when re-fitting.
Without the articulated socket extension you'd be in deep doo doo
Is it wire, if so solder it up or just use an electrical connector. People say you need to re-set the thing at Renault etc, bulldust. If it's an electrical wire just solder it.
cheers guys, got it sorted after finding a guide on here. Posted by Gaz Sport.

If I ever meet this chap the drinks are on me!
3 hrs on all is well. Tis an awkward job, don't care what anyone says...
172 2001, I'm in the middle of removing the cat to fit a replacement. I'm undoing the two spring loaded bolts that attach the cat down pipe to what I presume must be the manifold.
Ok, I'm undoing and undoing.... Have been undoing for what seems like a day. Do I just keep undoing these bolts...
