    Kenny's Kup

It's been a tedious few days but the inside of the car is almost ready for paint. I dont want to think how many hours I've spent rubbing down primer and spot priming numerous wee bits here there and everywhere but the end is in sight. I've hoovered and blown it out with the airline about 10...

BIGASH/FF-Racing X85 Clio Cup Racer Project

Re: James/BigAsh 182 Race Car by TDF... It doesn't get much better than this! *Pic He I feel your pain! I had hoped UPS might have got their act together since the last time I used them, but clearly not. I used them when I sent the gearbox out of my Westfield to Quaife for a rebuild. I asked...

Cheers, yeah it's getting there, just seems to take forever but I'm hoping once it gets painted that will be a bit of a milestone and help get things moving a bit quicker. It was MIG, 0.6mm wire, lots of little spots laid down one after the other while the last one is still hot, if you get it...

Yeah, gearbox clears no probs, thats partly why I went for 40mm I'm guessing you had to chap a tactical "dint" in the cover?

Small update, Spoke to my mate about getting the shell painted and the plan is to go for it next weekend so I need to finalise as much as I can inside the car and then get everything rubbed down and ready for paint. There are bound to be things I forget about and will have to sort later but I...

    Got caster yo

Nice idea, not sure how much caster I'll be able to get with my strut towers but if I need/want more something along the lines of what you've done is defo the way to go. Where exactly was it catching? bracket at the edge of the wing/bumper or just rubbing on the inner wheel arch in general?

Looks like a familiar idea ;) By raising the wishbone pickups you need to either raise the rack as I did, but you can only do this by about 20mm, the rest needs to be done by lowering the end of the tie rods where they attach to the upright. Looks like you've raised the pick ups quite a lot...

Yeah, afraid so, most of the hurdles i've had to over come are due to MSA rules, or more so the class rules, I could do some of the things to I wanted but I would get moved up to the next class where your against some serious machinery, any chance of picking up some points or getting placed in a...

Appreciate the input mate, turning the tank upside down was one of the ideas I looked at, by pure chance the shape is it's actually quite close to fitting the shape of the seat pan. However this is what I came up against; Although it may not appear so, the amount of modifications the tank...

I was partly to do with the diffuser, putting the exhaust out the side cleans up the underside of the car before the rear bumper. I'm not worried about flling the whole tank with foam, just enough to stop the fuel being able to slosh the full width of the tank.

My plan is to make up an alloy collector that drops down inside the tank in place of the standard pump/sender unit. It uses x3 one way check valves to allow fuel into the collector pot but won't let it back out, that way the lift pump stands a better chance of being able to do it's job...

It's be an intersting few weeks! Went away up north to a wee island for a holiday with the mrs the other week there, had a cracking time in more than one sense! managed to bust 2 ribs on the last night, lets just say it involved drink and falling haha. When I got back home and made it up to...

Looking good! Does the kit for the rear beam include the parts to put the lower shock mount into double shear or did you make that your self? I'm still in two minds what to do with the rear beam on mine, tempted to leave it apart from doing the shock mount and then see how I get on. I've got a...

Planning to run in B2, modified saloons. I got word back from the eligibilty scruitineer and unfortunately cutting the floor and welding a box in to hold a tank isn't allowed, falls foul of the unitary chassis regulation. I'll need to work with the space under the floor and possibly use the...

Yet another change of plan! No wonder it's taking me ages to get anything done on this car. I should know by now that as soon as I start to get doubts in my head about something I should pay heed! Although the tank was in and the firewall well on it's way to being finished, I had been having...

Wouldnt say I know them as such, but I've spoken to Lars a few times now since I initially emailed him the design for the tank. Seems like a really nice guy, and his welding is rather good too!

I didnt think mounting the tank was going to be such a pain in the ass! took way longer than I had hoped to come up with something I was happy with, been working away at this since I came home but I forgot the camera up to the workshop so believe it or not this is 2-3 days worth! Support frame...

lol, that seems be said quite a lot on here, they still weigh considerably more than the likes of a 106, guess they must be made from Aero or Wispa haha

You'll need 0.8mm at some point if you intend to do bits'n'pieces on the car so might as well get it now. I was trying to tack a few things onto the boot floor today, there's some stupidly thin sections on these cars! Had to change to 0.6 in and even then i had to go canny. Guess it's how...

Another Clio 172 Cup track/race build.

You probably could do it with 1mm but I would have said 0.8mm, thats pretty much the default for 1-4mm +/- With 1mm you'll obviously be using more amps to melt it so more chance of blowing a hole, but if the fit up between all the tubes is good and tight then you should be ok. 2.5mm CDS tube is...

I wouldnt be having second thoughts about what you've bought mate, what you've got there is a cracking machine that will last for years. Technology is great when it's working but if this wee Caddy ever goes Pete Tong, chances are it's not going to be a cheap thing to sort! What thickness and...

Another Clio 172 Cup track/race build.

A lot of places only seem to stock the C160, mine had to be ordered in but only took 2-3 days. I've only got 0.6 & 0.8mm wire so that obviously limits the amps, from memory the most it'll run on 0.8 wire is about 120A, thats with it in Qset mode. I've used it on some heavy I beams and box...

Another Clio 172 Cup track/race build.

Nice choice on the Mig, I spent ages trying to decide what to buy. I eventually narrowed it down to ESAB but was torn between the machine you've bought or the C200i Caddy. In the end the Caddy won, the transformer based set is probably more resilient and perhaps a better long term investment...

Another Clio 172 Cup track/race build.

Likewise, i'm learning as I go, although a few of my mates are quite good with this stuff. The roll centre alteration is in effect 35mm but since the laguna hubs move the wheel up relative to the rest of the suspension, it lowers the car while keeping the suspension geometry static. I would...

Another Clio 172 Cup track/race build.

I've been thinking about the roll centre thing again during the day and the differences you mentioned earlier about the centreline measurements, as I suspected it was maybe a bit too early in the morning to be thinking about stuff like that lol I didnt properly read what you had posted, it could...

I'm offshore at the moment too. Not looked at the cup racer manual yet, but will try and get a look sometime today. Cheers for measuring up the pins. It's a bit early to be thinking too hard about roll centres lol but I would make that a 35mm change in roll centre, regardless of the hubs used...

Hope you had a good b'day lol! I'm not sure what the differences are in the shaft lengths, i've never seen anything conclusive on what, if any differences there are in uprights etc with regard to how it effects the track. Best thing would be to physically get hold of a selection of bits and...

I'm sure I read somwhere on here about longer driveshafts from another model, what are they from again, Megane Scenic? I did wonder what you where going to do about bump steer. You've probably seen on my thread that I moved the rack up by 20mm, cant go anymore than that or the steering rods...
