BIGASH/FF-Racing X85 Clio Cup Racer Project

Looking good, what type of wire have you used, Raychem 44 or 55 ?

BIGASH/FF-Racing X85 Clio Cup Racer Project

Ahhaa, didnt realise these where a single wire type. I've wired my car to take a 3-wire if needs be but it can easily be changed to suit a single wire. May go for a smaller (lightweight) alternator at some point.

Yeah, when I was opening the box I honestly thought they'd just sent the bonnet, found something to stiffen the bonnet skin with minimal weight so all good. Weighed the doors last night, I got just over 6kgs but my wee digital scales are just about maxed at that so maybe a little off.

BIGASH/FF-Racing X85 Clio Cup Racer Project

Not quite sure how it manages to charge without the warning light connected up, I guess once it's spinning fast enough it must manage to get it's self going. Is that hose really that close to the alternator you couldnt get a wee plug in there? I'll be at the workshop soon, will dig it out...

Wee update: Seeing as I've now got fibreglass doors it seemed rude not to go the whole hog and do the bonnet and tailgate too. I tried to get hold of Hal but after 3 weeks of trying I figured I wasn't going to so decided to look elsewhere. After a bit of searching the only other places that...

BIGASH/FF-Racing X85 Clio Cup Racer Project

If it's a Cup alternator, it uses one of the two pins in the small rectangular (might be square) plug, which can just be seen behind that braided hose on the left of the picture. I've got the plug cut out of my old loom so I know what pin to use but it's at the workshop, I'm at home, can check...

    Powdercoat (BigAsh beware)

Many years ago I took the wheels off my cavalier GSi into a supposed "alloy wheel refurb specialist" they had them for a week or so then I decided to get different wheels so asked if I could just collect them. They had blasted them ready to coat, I couldn't believe the state of them, they did...

    Powdercoat (BigAsh beware)

I've also heard of numerous occasions where this has happened and I've also seen it personally a few times, Time attack 2009 was the most recent one I think, Andy Napier's Impreza broke a wheel which had been powder coated only a few weeks prior to the event iirc. I've been given and read all...

I've been busy making trailer for a friends boat since I got home, as usual its taken longer than planned so I only got the cover off the car on Wednesday afternoon, back to work next week but heyho. Given that I've been short of time I asked the machine shop to post out the first set of rack...

Dooh! Would it not be worth looking at the newer ST75-14 box? they seem a lot more reliable from what I can gather.

    Cam locking tool

I just bought a full set of timing tools from the dealers in Stirling, just up the road from you by the looks of it. Ask for Ryan when you get through to parts. Give them a call on Tuesday, only takes a day or two to get them in. I bought a load of other stuff at the same time so not sure...

    Dingers CSCC Tin Top Build

I cant remember what bore the master cylinder is from a road 172 Cup, sure someone will know but i'll check what I've got when I get home out of curiosity. I thought the Racers used a small bore master cylinder but maybe not.

    Kenny's Kup

That may well be something to do with it!! I've never found them very helpful any time I've phoned. I quite possibly just got fobbed off or they dont know what the road car actually had? I remember Ian tried to order a new upright for his rally car and they supplied a new 182 upright !!?? Even...

    Kenny's Kup

I phoned R-sport and asked about them, they said they were standard road car parts? Yeah i'd heard about the subframes cracking, having the engine mounted to it on virtually solid mounts wasnt a very good idea.
  16. K

    Kenny's Kup

It'll still have a tiny little bit of 'give' in them but for all intents and purposes, the rack will be solid mounted. I've spoken to a few guys who were involved in running the Cup Racers and they were adamant that the rack moved axially in its mounts. Given the rules, they weren't allowed to...

Just when I was starting to make some good progress on the wiring, it was time to go back to work! Possibly not all bad though, i'll be looking at it with fresh eyes when I go back so good opportunity to spot any mistakes. Pretty much where I got to before I left, Nylon Rack Bushes For...

    Dingers CSCC Tin Top Build

The ABS servo is slightly larger diameter than the Cup one. I've not checked but i'm pretty sure the master cylinder on the ABS cars will be a larger bore than the Non-ABS cars. This is to ensure there is sufficient fluid flow left to re-apply the brakes in the event the ABS is activated...

Another Clio 172 Cup track/race build.

Yeah it probably is a good trade off between the two. Hopefully the black up the inside of the A-pillars and the dash will be enough to minimise most of the glare on mine. Whats first on the list when you get home then?

Another Clio 172 Cup track/race build.

Looking good! I've often wondered if I should have done the inside of mine that sort of colour but I'm too far gone now to even consider changing it, will just have to put it down to hindsight!

Cheers again for the comments lads. Believe it or not this was the product of 9hrs work yesterday, very slow progress but i've been double checking everything as I go and so far no mistakes. This is just the control wiring, once I've got all that laid in I'll move onto the power. I'm probably...

It might work well enough to be able to run the injection pump from it but I've opted to run an external swirl pot too.

I've just sent Lars a message, I bought a few other things at the same time and forget exactly what the price was for this, around £150 i think but I also supplied the check valves. May seem a bit expensive for something that looks simple but there's actually quite a bit of time involved in...

Odyssey ph1 172 pure track car. No tax discs here........

I can relate to that!! On the brake lines, thats a fair comment, easy enough to re-route later if you decide, but as long as they're tucked up out the way they should be ok under the car.

How time flies, no wonder this thing is taking so freeking long to build :( As if I wasnt busy enough, I ended up having to go back offshore to cover for someone, that combined with some courses, looking for a house and countless other stuff i've had feck all time left to get any productive work...

Looking good mate. Forgive me if you've said already but are you intending to do any MSA sanctioned events in this? On the steering rack/column situation, I perhaps didnt explain exactly what I was on about, when I said the rack movement, I didnt mean the rack or column physically moving in...
