Whilst it is true that if you swap the 7.5mm ABS ring for the 15mm item, the GKN shaft will fit, it may invalidate the warranty if you experience any problems in the future.
I would go back to ECP and ask them to exchange it for a Shaftec R396R.

6000073585 with the access cover for the drain plug, or 8200158866 without.
Post a wanted on here, but you will be lucky to find one with the drain plug cover, though a friend found me a grommet as a substitute.

Check battery voltage is 14.5 volts with the engine running.
If not ,check that the 8mm red alternator ring has not rotted through, and the white alternator exciter wire has a 12v feed, and is firmly connected before condemning the alternator.

The selector shaft oil seal leak is a gearbox strip down to replace, and is a very common problem.
Most owners just top up the box every 6 months, as it usually looks worse...
If the speedo has bee dropping out for a while and finally failed, it very likely the speedo drive sensor.
The speedo drive sensor is located at the back of the gearbox.

For reference, the std PH2 172 & 182 share the same vacuum hose 6000073687.
Jack the car up so the front wheels off the ground.
Start car while in a gear that works. In this case you mention reverse.
Rev up (clutch pedal pressed) and then slam the anchors (brakes). This should fix your problem.
The symptoms you described were exactly what I had and it was the clutch...
7700417175 is the correct part number for 172/182 with air con.
You could use Nissens 63855A or 63768 as an alternative.
I spotted this condenser/ receiver drier combo as a bargain if you want a total refresh...
The 182 and non Cup Ph2 172 share the same engine loom, part number 7701059002, and the red wire from the knock sensor goes to
pin 12 of the ECU, and the white wire to pin 72.
100% checked and proven.
There is a pin out table in this thread...
The top cap should not make contact with the turret,and should have a 4 to 5mm gap.
If you machine the modified nut/spacer, it will become thread bound before it contacts the bearing, causing a REAL problem.
