Car is back at micks. All troubleshooting with Renault technical etc points to it needing a brand new steering column and ecu. Will cost about £1k 😭
Not sure it’s worth me fixing it or punting it on as it is and taking a bigger hit.
Either way I think ive had enough so will probably be up for...
I’ve checked some but not all of them. I’m just hoping that there’s a really simple fix like a fuse, but I’m surprised mick didn’t suggest that if it was
I already took it there and he told me to buy a new column which I did. It didn’t fix it so was told that it could be the ecu that needed recoding. So I did that and that didn’t fix it either.
I’m gonna take it back to micks and just leave it with him to sort before I give up with it
I’ve sourced a cheap steering column for £60 but it could also be the ecu that’s dead. There’s a company that wipes the ecu so you can just plug in and it recodes itself - just needs to be the same part number. So I need to get the part number from my ecu, of course it’s right under the clocks...
Trip to diamond motors confirmed ends that a new steering column is required. They’re not expensive thankfully
Doubt it will be ready for donnington next Sunday 😭
I’ve got the steering fault permanently now. It’s reading a few codes but nothing that looks related , maybe brake pedal switch fault?
Battery looks ok with 13.6v
Seems crazy that in the event of a low battery, they thought it would be a good idea to switch off the power steering in the middle of driving. Why not something a bit less intrusive?
I had it go half way round donnington which was an interesting lap.
Picked up a cheap gopro hero 8 which does seem to do spot metering but you have to set it every time the camera reboots. The battery doesn't work but i'll just hard wire it.
Would this mount be ok?

I've had this a few times in my 197, seems to be fixed by turning the car off and starting again. You get a loud beep, error comes on the dash and then you lose the power sterring.
I also had a check ESP warning the other day which again was fixed by restarting.
Doesn't seem to be much...
