Brake Ducts - Pipe directly to rotor, or deflector plate?

LOL, true. I just like to do stuff as best I can...

Brake Ducts - Pipe directly to rotor, or deflector plate?

Here's what I came up with in the end. Moulded around an old water container I had lying around :D I wanted a curve as I'm positive this will be better for air flow, driving it towards the caliper and disc rather than having a right angle which surely just stalls the air... Clearance on...

    Weight Saving Tips & Ideas?

Cheers man, I'll have a look... Any weight off the front has to be a bonus!

    Weight Saving Tips & Ideas?

Not heard of this before... How do I go about finding the ballasts? Cheers!

    Weight Saving Tips & Ideas?

Aye, got rid of mine, no problems at all. Also frees up space for brake ducts. If you want any help/tips for doing it let me know! Here's a similar thread I made a while ago, some more suggestions in here...

Brake Ducts - Pipe directly to rotor, or deflector plate?

Makes sense dude, I shall probably be doing the same.

Brake Ducts - Pipe directly to rotor, or deflector plate?

Cheers for the link Tony! The location is fine as far as I can tell, doesn't hang any lower than the splitter, although I guess it would get ripped off with a gravel-excursion! However, I'm not happy with how direct the feed is to the rotor so have made a start on some deflector plates. On my...

    888 Tyre pressures

Makes sense - cheers! I guess it boils down to 'better to spend half an hour at the start of the day messing around with them, than lose 2 hours at the end cos they're shredded'.......

    888 Tyre pressures

I'd defo err on the side of caution when it comes to tyres (for the expense more than anything!), so I'll start them closer to the recommended pressures then - if you have some old tyres kicking around that's more experience than I have :approve: Cheers man!

    888 Tyre pressures

Yeah, but they get up to temp within a couple of laps usually? So you'd be stopping every lap to let a bit out. Same here - very surprised at how much the pressures rise!

Removing headlining glue from the roof?

Shouldn't do, it didn't on mine :) Tried brushing it on, left it a few mins, then attacked it with a heat gun and scraper - no joy... I possibly didn't leave it long enough: http://www.ehow.com/how_5663412_remove-polyurethane-glue.html - but it evaporates so quickly.

    172 Cup Track Project

Thanks man. Haha :o Half the fun is in making stuff! But I agree, needs a good thrashing now...

    172 Cup Track Project

A little more progress... Finished spigot rings and got track wheels fitted. Bought a solid bar originally, took fooking ages and ended up with a massive lump of swarf, haha. Same night I went online and bought some tube instead... Delivery was more than the bar (gits) but was much easier to...

Brake Ducts - Pipe directly to rotor, or deflector plate?

Very good idea - thanks for that! After more checking/tweaking (and from the info above) I'm definitely going to go down the deflector plate route. The duct I had in (see below) seems to work from a very basic 'drive/brake the car hard then see how close to the wheel I can put my face before...

Removing headlining glue from the roof?

The stuff on the roof is polyurethane glue, a right pig to get off, I gave up on mine! Apparently the way to do it is soak in acetone... which is pretty tricky with it being the roof :(

Brake Ducts - Pipe directly to rotor, or deflector plate?

Ah - I only had 51mm hose, which is probably why it worked... Will grab my jack and some pics in a min :)

Brake Ducts - Pipe directly to rotor, or deflector plate?

Makes sense - however I did manage to squeeze one in on the drivers side with one route (onto the wishbone), and another on passenger side with a different route (to a pipe that was mounted against the caliper). I'll grab a pic of the drivers side later, but taken the hose out of the passenger...

Brake Ducts - Pipe directly to rotor, or deflector plate?

And that too - I'd forgotten about that! Edit: Random off-topic - Dan, your site has some very sweet photos on it. Most photography sites with automotive sections just make me go 'meh, my mum could do that', but your photos are awesome dude

Brake Ducts - Pipe directly to rotor, or deflector plate?

No worries, I'll get one later for you :) Yeah that's how I did it, took a lot of faffing around to find a route that didn't hang down too much, rub against the wheels/driveshaft etc though!

Brake Ducts - Pipe directly to rotor, or deflector plate?

Thanks for your input. I got a hose fitted aiming towards the rotor (fixing it against the lower wishbone) - it's out of the way of the tyre on full lock, but it doesn't point directly at the rotor... I think it's possible but would be a bit more work - I'll see how it goes!
