One of the main problems with Windows is due to its popularity. My mother-in-law is forever having problems with Windows, slow down, popups, IE crashes. This is nothing to do with the O/S its completely her own doing, she downloads games from random sites, most of which are loaded with spyware...

Depends on how you define dominated, Windows overtook Unix in terms of sales last Feb according to a report from IDC with Linux is making large strides also. Very rare for major companies to lose a server due to hacking whether Linux, Unix or Windows based. This isn't the 80's.

I think you should maybe reread my responses, I haven't told anyone to move to Windows. I've given my reasons for not using Linux and I feel they are valid.

I've used Linux a little bit but found it didn't meet my needs for home as I play a lot of online poker and games, I may use it for a web server though as I mentioned before my home PC is nearing the end of its life.

I would change the name, using 'server' could result in you facing similar issues further down the line.

Change the name of your server, quickest solution if theres another machine with the same name that you don't control, you could add an entry to the hosts files on the 2000 box but this will only resolve the name resolution issues for that machine.
