I thought this would be easier, these are completely untouched images from the Luffield Terrace from my D50, focal lengths are listed above each pic and are literally just the actual focal length shown on the lens...
145mm
200mm
420mm
420mm
300mm should be ok for you, and that focal...
It's on Vivid already, although tempted to change it back to standard as when it's sunny the grass is waaaaay too green.
Nope not unless in win the lottery, even driving to Brands pretty much bankrupts me for a month, so just sticking to Combe, Thruxton, Prescott and an occasional drive to...
Only dropped into Combe for 2hrs yesterday, my main aim being to get a few standard shots to try and process before the season starts proper for me in a week or two.
How does this look?
To my eyes it's a little over the top, compared to this, which has had virtually nothing done to...
They definitely have a distinct visual style to them, all been processed in roughly the same way by the looks of things.
Love your shots anyhow, #1 doesn't quite sit right for me compositionally (can't quite put my finger on why, maybe the sun being central) but I love the rest, #11 in...
Dropped in for a brief visit to Castle Combe today, first time shooting for the best part of 5 months so I'm ropey to say the least and couldn't really get into the swing of things, good fun though, the Trophy was certainly shifting...
Had a nosey in September (just outside) during the 24hr race, didn't realise it wasn't open yet. The Alpine Circuit looks amazing, properly authentic though, no run-off, just barriers!
I got my first wedding in pretty much the exact same circumstances, I charged £100 (seemed a reasonable balance between covering my costs, and them not expecting too much out of them), the fee was for a disc of high-res photos only, so they could do what they liked with them (organising...
Money but no sense ;)
Seriously limited amount of track time available for anything that noisy, be lucky to find any in the UK. Probably need to haul your ass over to Ascari Resort or something everytime you want to run the car (with your team of engineers, obviously ;))
Pretty bad at the moment, kind of like somebody is constantly pressing the pointy end of a pretty warm iron into my side, and has been for about the past 48hrs solid :) Turns out I was incredibly lucky in New York not to be taken ill, as the op just prior to that trip didn't work.
Got home from...
Metro, tbh...

At a charity trackday a few years back it's fair to say that most people found this waaaaay more fun than the genuinely rapid stuff also available.
I've officially failed. Kidney Stones resurfaced on Wednesday whilst in IKEA (bit of a surprise, I've had two ops in the past couple of months to get rid of them, last one was only 3 weeks ago!) and so the rest of that day was completely lost.
Gutted tbh, was getting much easier now it's...
How did it look for the general public? Always been tempted to visit but it doesn't look like an appealing circuit to photograph at from what I've seen (which isn't much, does anyone ever actually spectate there?!)
I scanned through the pics before I read your opening stuff, and I was...
Very tempted but slightly worried about how much access there will be (understandably, considering the size/weight of the trucks) as I know most circuits put up extra fences or close areas off. Bit of an expensive long day to risk it. Any thoughts? Did you go last season?
Might wait till...
Sharpness isn't actually too great at full res for a lot of these, I've applied a very minor unsharp mask to some (10%) but otherwise it's just down to a bit of levels tweaking. Every shot is through a wire fence that was a good 6ft away, so that tends to wash the colours out (had some cracking...
Staggeringly sharp, and it's amazing what the lack of a fence does to Paddock Hill shots, stunning.
I'm guessing the light helped, but imo these are some of your best pics. I always think March/April and Oct/Nov is the best time of year for motorsport photography...if the weather is kind.
Couldn't fault the 70-300 personally, I had the non-APO one but thought it was a cracking lens. For £90 I couldn't believe how much my shots improved.
These look pretty sharp to me...http://www.chrisharrison.smugmug.com/gallery/2032578_p2xtG
Really been into it since about Oct '06 when I got my first DSLR, I had a bridge camera for a year or two before that, but wasn't really doing it as a hobby as such.
Backgrounds aren't quite as nice with this lens (Nikon 80-200 2.8 AF-S still my favourite for that) but that may be down to...
Headed down to Marwell today as the weather was so good. First non-motorsport outing for the 120-300 2.8, and I've just picked up a used Sigma 1.4tc so I had a pretty hefty 168-420mm f4 set-up (getting on for 4kg). It generated an awful lot of comments from people, which made for quite an...
I'm guessing not, it's pretty busy up there at Easter so they probably wouldn't want people tripping over tripod legs etc.
Easy to work around that anyhow, I didn't use anything apart from walls/railings and managed to fire off 15sec exposures comfortably. Just be creative!
That's quite odd. Ironically, the Castle Combe forum usually has a post or two after a trackday with pictures, the staff do contribute to the forum regularly and have never highlighted it as an issue.
I will say though, as a rule of thumb, some conscientious photographers will blank out...
That's very interesting, never heard of them questioning anyone attending. Did they specifically say you couldn't attend, even if just for personal use/practice? They probably just wanted to make sure you were not going along to try and sell your pics.
Basically, turn up. The circuit is always...
I'm probably the worst person to ask about learning, as I'm incredibly lazy when it comes to the ins and outs of photography (I've flicked through Understanding Exposure a few times, it's as foreign to me now as it was the day I bought my first camera, but for most I fully appreciate that it's a...
