Warm, soapy water for the C5'd wheels, Jaff.
Spray it off with a high pressure sprayer. It contains grit (birds eat grit to aid digestion), so get rid of it as best you can with a touchless option before going anywhere near it with a mitt.
I know pressure washers are not always to hand, so...
As Chris has said, 3M foaming glass cleaner.
Re trim, depends on whether you want to reapply every month or prep properly once, apply once, leave for two years... Former, AF Revive. Latter, C4.
It's only in Petrol Station shops gang. I looked in the huge Tescos near me first of all, nothing other than the usual 3M and Simoniz products. Then checked the petrol station in it's car park - success!

Used this again today. Superb on uncared for wheels (I.e. not sealed). Mine desperately need a refurb so excuse the god awful condition.
Sprayed on at the local jet wash. Dwell for five mins. Washed off. Fronts were soiled, backs were not too bad.
Washed of to an immaculate finish!
AF - fair points in your opinion/experience, although I disagree (QDs offer more protection than water from stray dust particles etc) - agree to disagree.
But for goodness sake, recognise advice and advise!!! And "ammeter" and "misted"?! :)
Also, just to add, I'm more surprised at Clark/PB to be honest.

Thanks for that, guys. I completely agree that at some point a cloth will be used on the paint and that might inflict swirling. However, surely you want to minimise the chances, so pat drying is the safer option?

Without a pressure washer at the moment, I take the car to the local jet wash and give it a once over. Removes anything that is more trouble with just a low pressure hose.
Actually with detailing stuff, I'm quite cut throat. Don't like it or doesn't work it gets thrown/sold/sent to Gally. G1 was used up on my and family cars. Still have the G4 that came with it though.
True, but the difference between G1 and G5 is insane. G1 if you're constantly on the motorway doing 70mph is fine, but most of us drive at 30mph to our houses at some point. So for the sake of a quick top up (and my God, it really is simple/fool proof) G5 would be my advice every time.
At the moment, my wheels are a mess as I've not topped up the protection (FK1000p) for months and the DS2500s are starting to produce very hard stuck on dust. So I just IronX them when I get a chance as I had no way to clean them. At some point I'll refurb them, but at the moment, this stuff...
To the latter part of that post, I understand well! Although I feel better as I've just cleared out my shed from moving in two months ago. Chucked out so much wood, old tiles, random other stuff the previous owner had stored in there, as well as a load of stuff I'd brought with me from my rental...
I know what you mean. I detailed dad's car over the weekend, so the R8 has taken over as the pampered car in the NW. So I need to buy all new stuff; Citrus, CarPro wash mitt, some new buckets and hyper wash, EZ brush etc etc.

Sure it's brake dust and not tar? Worth going through the process of decontaminating the wheels fully (detar, deiron, clay, polish, IPA wipe down), then protecting them with something like C5. Makes them much easier to clean, especially after track days, even with performance brake pads.
Just realised I have an outside tap. Granted it's right at the back of my house, but no longer need to use the jet wash!! Winner! So AF Citrus Power and other bits will be coming soon to make up my Southern Detailing Kit. Fun times!
