There is normally a mechanical switch mounted in/on the gearbox that is actuated when you select reverse gear. If this switch or the wiring to/from it is faulty the R/lights wont operate. Warranty should get it sorted though!

Sounds to me like youve got a broken engine/gearbox mount? Go easy till its been checked out otherwise you could do more damage.
