Shame to hear about what happened. It's not unheard of but it definitely could have been alot worse. Breaking down is one thing but have a full on shunt/pileup and being bent over backwards for all the charges you get stung for there, on top of what you already experienced, is a further kick to...
They're already gone if you need your wife's permission ;)
Tbh, it's not really a huge jump. A 197 is smaller and more chuck-able. It may look a bit more sporty but that's subjective. Everything else is is pretty much business as usual. Maintenance, parts, mpg, performance, equipment and...
Don't bother then. DPF problems, EGR issues, won't get up to temperature quick enough so won't get good mpg, expensive to fix when they go wrong, i could go on.
Seriously though, why would you want the diesel version? There's pretty much no upsides to it and would not really benefit you at all.
What mileage do you do roughly per annum? I personally wouldn't touch a diesel anything unless you're doing about 20k and majority motorway work. It'd be a 2.0 TSI every time! They can be had fairly cheap now as they do not hold their value quite as well as the Golf GTI and aren't as popular either.
As said, it's an unfortunate but common problem. Some have issues, some don't but it's always something to be wary of with these. There's nothing to say that another one you drive won't have the same issue or even gain the problem at some point in the future afterwards. It's really hit and miss...
I never used to be keen on the shape but now i much prefer them over the PH2. The standard wheels and front end really does it for me. I always keep my eye out for any decent examples for sale.
Which Scirocco are you considering? I loved mine, even though it was only the 1.4 TSI 122. You can get the 2.0 TSI models now for very cheap, which is basically just a Golf GTI with subjectively better styling and looks.
I'd personally test both and see what you prefer. They're 2 very different...
Are the Tip tronic's really that bad? My dad's got one on his 997 and he took me for a quick blast on the weekend, after he got it back from having some suspension work done and it seemed to work well with the car. Far enough it's no PDK and you don't get paddles but rather buttons on the...
Love both of these cars. It's a nice 2 car set-up actually. It's pretty mental how frugal the 172's can be. To think that a big 2.0 N/A petrol engine fitted in such a small, light car can be so good on fuel, especially in comparison to a modern down-sized 1.6 turbo engine. I presume it's the...
It's a nice example that. Not massively keen on the driver's side harness but it's not an ultimate deal breaker for me.
I'll keep you posted. I've got a bit of a nightmare with my current car atm. I'm potentially looking to end the lease early but i'm not sure what that will cost me and that...
Yeah that's the only thing that bothers me some-what. I know these can carry some serious terminal rust, underneath the sills, in particular. I know PH2 172's and 182's can have a few rust spots here and there but it rarely seems that bad.
Yeah but i believe Ford confirmed that it is not on their agenda anytime soon. It's a shame as i think it would be a great car and a fantastic seller. I presume it was to stop the little Fiesta nibbling at the Focus RS's heels and it's sales for that matter. It wouldn't be wise to release both...
Thanks for the responses.
Ref the PH1, would it make a decent daily? I know i don't do much mileage and buying one with high miles would in no way put me off. I'm not buying it as an investment but i definitely wouldn't complain if it made me some cash come re-sale time. I only mainly do short...
Bonjour,
I'm a serious long-time lurker that has finally joined up on here. I'm basically after getting out of my boring leasing rut. Both, for the sake of my sanity and to start putting away more money for a house deposit. I've always wanted a Renaultsport Clio after being taken out in my...
There's nothing wrong with the normal 225's. Everyone i know that's had one seems to have turned out to be an absolute money pit though. I'm not sure if it's just a myth but the R26's seem to be much better screwed together but, saying that, they are newer so it could just be an age thing...
Do you prefer turbo motors or N/A? Or are you just open to either?
I still think the 172 and 182's are the one's to have when looking at the Clio's. Very cheap, lots of toys (non-Cup models) and decent on fuel. Personally, the 197's and 200's look so much better but i'm not sure i could use one...
As said above, E39 540i is the best bet if specifically wanting a manual only. You could also look at the 535i, which is also a V8, but has less power. There seems to be more of them about when i've looked but general consensus dictates that the 540i is the best one to have. Just be prepared to...
That's a very good explanation of it! It's no wonder why they're getting such rave reviews.
Even if i wanted one, they're completely out of my price range. I've just found that the smaller class of hot hatches are a bit more suited to my use. That's not to say that i wouldn't consider one...
Fair enough. It seems like you've already made your mind up in that case.
The Clio 200's have really come down in price now and some can be had for an absolute bargain.
I will agree that there are the odd few muppets and simpletons on there. In all fairness though, there are some decent examples that crop up more often than not. Many seem to have decent adverts, which is a rarity these days.
I'd say save some cash and go for a well-sorted 182. Better on fuel, no common flat-spot (not that i'm aware of anyway), still has all the toys as standard (so long a you don't go for a Cup model), kangarooing shouldn't be as much as an issue (if at all) while the engine warms up. They just seem...
It's the cheapest i've seen one going for in decent nic. Well, as far as i could tell anyway, with documented proof of serving, maintenance, repairs etc. The cheapest i've seen before that is about 3.2k with the usual crap and uninformative advert, usually via a generic garage.
There's an Alibi Blue 197 on the Cliosport Owners Club FB page for for £2.5k that i spotted over the weekend. Can't remember the full specs but the mileage wasn't that high and it seemed in pretty decent condition and well maintained. Had a list of all the work it had done and no mention of it...
Lovely RS there Mark. It's nice to see one in something other than Nitrous Blue. Although, i do love that colour. I've started seeing a good few of these in my area now.
Does it feel like a big car, both in general and when pressing on? I test drove a MK7 ST a few years ago now and it just felt...
Stunning car. Shame it's sold. They do seem to be fetching decent amounts these days when they do pop up. I really fancy one as a next car. I love the standard wheels on these aswell.
The MK7 Fiesta ST's do seem to be better on fuel. That could be to do with the Clio's being a dual-clutch gearbox. Most manufacturers do quote that the manual versions of most cars use a little bit less fuel in comparison, but i suppose that all depends on what type of driving you do.
In terms...
