Im sure that the idle control valve is the red "plug like thingy" on the throttle body that you can see as soon as you open the bonnet (just behind the airbox). I could be wrong, but i think that this needs to be set up by Renault!! (see page 4.18 in the Haynes manual, the fault finding bit!!)
My fault!! It was the cold start injector that caused the problem on mine. This is on page 4.25 in my Haynes manual, under fuel and exhaust systems. Basically it doesnt put enough petrol in the engine, so the car sounds terrible.
I got the part from Renault, and fitted at my local Lex...
It could be the cold idle sensor on the bottom of the engine?? Had to get mine changed, but mine wouldnt start at all. When it did, even when i put my foot on the accelerator, nothing would happen and the car would cut out. When it did start, the idling was quite "violent", so perhaps your...
After yet another sunny day!, whilst driving back from work, i felt water dripping onto my foot whilst it was placed on the "foot rest mounting" Any ideas how the rain could get down to there?? I know its not through the sunroof or arial as they have already been treated (succesfully i...

If its the cold idle sensor, the battery will try to spark the rest of the engine but nothing will happen (as though the car is trying to start but cant). My problem occured when cold and because the sensor wasnt working, not enough petrol was getting into the engine, thus nothing to "spark"...

Was very impressed with the one Leigh got for me a while back. All i did was swap the inserts over and stick it down with a bit of glue and some blu-tack!!
I had the same problem with my electric one in my valver. Firstly clean out all the crap that deposits in and around the sunroof and seal (mine had a green like mould in). I put some clear waterproof silicone gently around the arial and certain places around the actual seal, then give it time to...
Not sure if i had the same problem as you Brun, but it turned out mine was due to the cold idle sensor on the bottom of my 16valve lump, but i dont know if your engine will have one of these. If it is that, i got the part from Renault and fitted by my local Lex Autocentre for just over £40...

I got my 172 interior including delivery for £450. (Norwich to Newcastle) Yes, the seats are a different shape, the fronts required drilling two holes per frame to secure them properly. As for the backs, i stripped my original seats off the frames and put the 172 ones on instead. All...
Turned the key this morning, battery fine, car wouldnt start at all. The engine sounds terrible, and when i put my foot on the accelerater to give it some revs, the pedal was going right to the floor but having no effect, the engine still wouldnt fire. When i did get it going, shes barely...
