You dont need to buy a bike to do your test. Im not completely sure what the latest rules/laws are about riding bikes coz I passed my test years ago, but if you are serious I would suggest you go about it like this...
1) Buy a car, like people have said, you cant take your mates out on a bike...
Dave, you can call the AA and have your personal cover suspended until your other cover expires. I got 3 years cover with my new motor the same level as I was paying for personal cover. My personal cover is now suspended until the free cover runs out, then the personal cover kicks in again until...
I agree, it is not clear what exactly you should declare to your insurance if you have factory options fitted. I also agree that its not "modified" with factory options, but it isnt standard spec is it? Standard to me means the basic trim level for that car, so if you get the cup suspension and...
I dont think thats true. I could be wrong but AFAIK you have to declare any change from standard spec even if they are factory options as they can affect the value of your car. You will most likely find that they make little or no difference to your premium but you should declare them as...
I will echo 172chicks comments about their Tunbridge Wells branch. I had all but a few of my Renault Dealership dealings with Whitehouse in Tunbribge Wells and all I can say is steer well clear.
They are all part of the same group - maybe the Tonbridge guys are a better bunch, but at T.Wells...
Bad luck, but before you definately decide not to get a new tyre it is worth remembering that tyres can be seriously damaged by such an impact and it isnt always visible.
The tyre could suddenly bulge and then blowout, or you may have damaged the steel carcass inside. Then you could be back...
Remember it is not only the police that can nick you, and MOT testers that can fail your cars MOT. DVLA officials can issue tickets (IIRC they are like 7 day wonders) for licencing and registration offences. DVLA employees are issued books of tickets (I know coz my sister is a DVLA inspector)...
Since September 2001 you have been allowed the European Union symbol, it was illegal to have other flags/symbols.
Since December 2001 the national flags (Union Flag, St. Georges Cross, Scotish Saltire & Welsh Dragon) have been allowed, its just that the government havent yet amended the...
I made the change from a 172 to a new 2.0 147 lusso back in November. I certianly havent regretted it. Its down on power compared to the Clio, but IMO it is a much nicer car to drive, and far better put together.
The Alfa dealers I use are far better that he Renault places I used for the...
I would imagine that you are correct. The pigs are going to have to have pretty good eyesight to be able to notice that the postcode is missing if the rest of the plate is legal. I think the new laws were to catch the people whose plates had blatently dodgy fonts/spacing and the people who...
<A name=thebritishstandard>THE BRITISH STANDARD
The British Standard sets out the physical characteristics on the number plate. This includes:
Visibility
Strength
Reflectivity
The British Standard also requires that a number plate must be marked with the following information: -...
Not sure under which offence you could be fined, £80 for not taxing (or declaring SORN) you car under the new rules or the £1000 fine for not declaring SORN under the rules introduced in 1998?
But in the same way that an alarm can be fitted, it is also possible to have the windows etched and registered to the ISR, although it would be possible to tell from the number that this has not been done by Renault. It doesnt mean that its not UK spec, just that it hasnt been registered by...
Jay - I think you have it back-to-front. Imports have the 2 year manufacturers warrenty. This can be topped up to 3 years with a simple phone call to Renault.
I doubt that any import has the cat1 alarm fitted, but this can be retro fitted by a Renault dealer for about £300.
I wonder if this is the same as the "Leading edge tape" or "anti errosion tape" (same stuff - different name) that we use at work (Passenger aircraft engineering)? a clear plastic sticky tape about 1mm thick on 3"wide rolls. If it is, then it would stop chips but cosmetically it would look...
With regard to the private land thing some of you have mentioned, the law was ammended in April 2000 and since then you must be insured to use your vehicle on the road or other public place
The following 3 paragraphs are taken from the "Cop Shop" article of another club I belong to.
Other...
Highway code rule 123: ...give way to traffic on your right unless road markings indcate otherwise. Watch out for traffic already on the roundabout...
Rule 125: Watch out for traffic crossing in front of you on the roundabout... Show them consideration
Depends who was on the r/about first...
Well I think its safe to say that it was the brake fluid level. After I topped it up (not by very much) the problem has not returned.
Cheers everyone for your replies.
Cheers all, Been out in the rain, scratched about in the garage for 20 mins looking for the correct star-drive bit for the top cover and checked to level. It was a little low so Ive topped up. Will find out this evening when I go to training if it has sorted the problem.
My STOP warning light and the exclaimation mark in a circle light (which is the brake circuit warning light?) have recently started coming on together when taking Left-handed long sweeping corners at a bit of speed.
I know that this shouldnt really be happening, and so when it happens I slow...
Im a bit thick when it comes to computer/website/internet stuff like this. Could someone explain how you find the IP address and how you get this sort of info from an IP address?
One of our feathered friend deposited something on the roof of my car during the week. I didnt manage to get round to cleaning it off until this evening (bad I know). Problem is, it seems to have marked the top (Clearcoat?) layer of paint. Given it a good clean, used some Autoglym polish but...
Only needs to be 2 of them if they are not using calibirated equipment (usually a boggo panda car?). The second copper basically backs up the opinion of the first. I would imagine that all traffic cars have a calibirated device of some kind (spedo, Vascar, Video) and so only one policeman is needed.
Ive just called my sister (who works for the DVLA) to ask her about this. She says that it simply isnt true. You cannot write to the DVLA requesting details about a car without a very good reason or as my sister put it "willy-nilly".
There is however a service that the DVLA provide whereby...
