Pretty sure the offset is ET35-45 on a 172. My 17s are ET38 and fit fine. 48 is closer to a vauxhall size (ET 49) - Doubt if they will fit. Ideally you want 4x100, ET35-45

Dont drive like a headcase normally but did manage to hit 115 when I saw the roundabout infront of me. Brakes grumbled a bit about that. Thats when I wondered if the brakes required upgrading coz of the wheels?. (Off course this was a private road with a private er... roundabout)

Yeah K-Tec do a front disc uprated set but dont appear to do rears. Would rather get them both sorted. Insurance is a git. Tesco want £357 a year extra to putthese wheels on my car!! Changed to Elephant instead. They want.....nowt!!!

I had a 1.2 16V Sport and my sunroof did a similar thing (knocking rather than squeeking though) I couldnt fix it so ended up ignoring it!! (Not a solution) - Try putting a v. thin layer of grease on the inside lip of the rubber. If its squeeking its likely to be rubber on metal.

Just done it. Was also loaded up with friends too so gave them a good screeching!! Seems better. Probably just the weather at the mo. When I start the car in the morning I get a symphony of rattles, knocks, buzzing etc until it warms up!! (Aahhhh England!!)

Did you buy a replacement air filter then? If so which one and have you noticed any benefit? I was considering an induction kit but the original filter is forced air from the front vents anyway (which probably does the same job!).

I drive around in Harlow occasionally. Got a Mk1 Silver 172 on 17s with a small cliosport sticker in the rear window. Will keep my eye out for a black Mk2

Dont worry mate, i got that this morning too!! It was raining and/or the road was wet and I tried to burn off in first gear. All I got was a lot of spinning and a hard bang bang bang from somewhere up front!! I expect its a support in the engine bay or something that clanks when the engine...
