Thanks for the reply Andy. What you're saying in a nutshell is I should have gone to Renault in the first place. I honestly didn't realise there would be such a major difference. I haven't got £350 to spare at the moment as I need the belts replaced. I'll know for next time though !
I'll have...
Well if I can get the peace and quiet back for £100 I may be tempted. I'll have a word with the lads down at Birchdown when I go to get my belts replaced, see what they can suggest.
Including fitting?
I thought I read £800 somewhere on this forum. The problem was the exhaust went on a Thursday night and I didn't know what needed replacing so I went to ATS at riday lunchtime and they told me it was about to fall off so I bascially had it fixed there and then.
If I'd...
6 weeks on and the noise is really getting on my tits now. Anything I can do? Just replace the backbox or shall I just live with it? Need the cambelt replacing too so money is tight.
Petrol's not the biggest problem it's the ever increasing road tax. If I changed to one of the £35 tax cars eg. a Fiesta diesel I'd be saving £50 per month in petrol, tax and insurance. Christ might even be able to get my sky put back on !!
Surely the part ex would depend on the price of the new vechicle? Just tried wewillbuyyourcar.com and they were offering £3,900 which has to be the bottom price.
Surprise surprise no call back they are obviously making too much money ! Checked my bills and no sign of an aux belt being fitted.
How much would a new water pump cost as a matter of interest? Oh and front and rear wipers too? cheers
Am awaiting a call back for a quote. I asked them to check my records to see if the aux belt had been fitted, they said they would but the two belts are usually fitted at the same time...eh!??!
I'll check my receipts later but I'm sure they didn't. May gave them a call anyway to get a cambelt quote (just for a laugh) and ask if they have a record of it being changed.
lol
Nick when I first bought the car I was single and just been made redundant so treated myself as had always wanted an RS clio. 5 years on I'm a happy family man with 2 kids and a bloody huge mortgage due to moving house a few months back.
I feel a lot happier after readin this thread...
I'm coming up to 5 years in a few weeks and the dreaded cambelt change. Only have 16K on the clock and had the car serviced by a main dealer at 2 years and 4 years. They never mentioned the aux belt needed changing !
Ill definitely be going the part-ex route. I may visit a few dealers/supermarkets and if that's all they're offering it'll make up my mind to keep it. I'm not giving it away !
Can anybody recommend a decent independent in the Chester/North Wales area that could change the belts?
Crunch time for me. I have a 53 plate 172 which I have owned since new. It only has 16K miles on the clock and the MOT is due in 7 weeks and tax at the end of this month. The timing belts are also due to be replaced and reading through some posts I could be looking at a bill from £600 to £1000...
You could be right I may have dropped a bollock here. The new exhaust is noisier than the original Renault and performance is no where near as good, seems very sluggish to me.
