Hi!
So last weekend I was pulling down a slip road, basically the box blew itself to smithereens and the engine won't restart.
Looking for a bit of advice / next steps to go down.
The box has a massive hole in it and I can replace the box pretty quickly but the engine not starting is my...
yep. Box blew itself to smithereens and the car overrevved so suspect it's dropped a valve or timing has jumped. Will pick up a new engine and box and stick it in over the next few months and then put it back up for sale with fresh belts etc.
Pulling up the A184 and went to change gear and blew the box to smithereens. Suspect engine damage also as it over-revved and now won't restart.
Autopsy next weekend. Pretty gutted but know these cars pretty well so can all be repaired!
Bit of an update - Haven't really been into the car recently - actually put it up for sale on Friday.
Took it for a drive today and polished it and realised i'd be stupid to sell it.
Potentially looking to do something big to the engine over the next 6 months, looking at FI....
Few photos...
2004 Renault Clio 182 Full Fat – Petrol Blue
1 of 29 cars registered in the UK, even less with both cup packs which this car has (at least 4 have been written off so getting rarer and rarer)
119,000 Miles
Will stick 12 months MOT on for the buyer.
Good service history including timing belt and...
Will look into building a PC in that case. I'm looking at buying a GT Omega setup - just unsure what size TV to buy to go with it. Don't know if bigger is better.
I'm looking to build a home race sim based on Xbox - unsure what to go for AC or Project Cars.
One thing I like about AC when I had a go on it today at my mates place was you can do a true BTG lap. Can you do this on Project Cars 2?
Unsure if it'll work as not familiar with what you're doing
Resistors from maplins will have a 5% tolerance at best, possibly 10%. your 270ohm resistor could be 256-283.5ohms so it should work OK if yo need a 274ohm
This morning I fitted the new exhaust I have had lying around since I bought the car - a Milltek cat back and Milltek Decat pipe. I also had 2 x powerflex rear exhaust mount to fit. They're a bloody pain to get into the exhaust brackets - ended up using a bit of unistrut, a bolt and a big washer...
Update from this weekend.
The weekend didn't get off to a productive start - had to take the Mrs and her mates to the airport and had to empty my car out into the garage. Took me 30 minutes to empty the car but 2 hours to pack it back up again.
Everything emptied into the garage
Car packed...
Will potentially be going to the Team Valley tonight in the PB 182 - just had it out for a bit of a shakedown after being rebuilt and apart from a couple of issues it's good to go. Will try and give it a wash and get my new wheels on it
Just picked up some new wheels. any guesses?
had the car running this afternoon. was idling up at 3k so reseated all the gaskets on the inlet side and it got a bit better. reseated the pipe to the brake servo and it now idled at around 1000rpm. a little bit high maybe but the car hasn't moved...
Might have just bought a new set of wheels also.....
Working down south for the next couple of days but picking them up on the way back up the road....
I only do the whiteboard thing as i'm proper forgetful. I work away all week and i'll get home and spend an hour messing around trying to pick up where I left off.
Something ingrained in me from my day job is project planning.... I always find myself sitting in front of my bloody whiteboard as i'm packing up seeing where I am and writing things that need done. The difference between my day job and this car though is that my day job list isn't never ending...
Progress update from today. Spent 2 hours on the car this afternoon before getting told off by the Mrs. It's OK though as she's going to Marbella next Thursday for a few days and my little boy is staying at the grandparents all weekend so I've got a full weekend to work in the garage.
Started...
Not bad progress - I started around 17:00 and finished around 21:30 so just a few hours spent on the car.
I hate box oil... It's took me an hour and a half this afternoon to get rid of it all off the garage floor. The belts were done 5 months before I bought the car by a reputable garage in...
Update from tonight - spent a couple of hours on the car
As the car was on all 4 wheels, the next step to get it up and running was to fill up all fluids.
Started off with engine oil - used some oil I had lying around just to get the car up and running. Got some genuine oil from Renault to...
