Mod plod, there was a red Audi 80 with no tax, mot or car pass a few cars up from yours and i saw yours whilst dealing with that.
but thought it was yours coz of the mask but didnt recognise it with the wheels/winter set up.
on my mk1 phase 2 (yes i had angel eyes :o) it was just plug in and go, the plug for the sidelight from the wireing loom plugged onto the angel eye plug.

i know the temp of air in that part of the engine chamber might not really be any diff to it comeing from the CAF, thats why im wondering if taking it off provides greater air flow therefor making it rev better?
or am i talking sillyness?
