I agree with Joshydee. I'd just get some 15" dynamique ones. You watch eBay for a while you'll find some nearly new, unmarked ones with newish contis on for under £300.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind an extended test drive in a meggy 225. If I was ever to buy one new, I'd need to know it's a happier ownership prospect than a 172 rather than just knowing it's great fun to drive for 15 minutes.

Possibly something like kitchen roll, or if you can get something more meaty like kimwipe (blue roll). Possibly try cleaning using this and a degreasant and then re-greasing all the mechanism once it's spotless. Once again though, I work on aircraft and don't have specific knowledge of car...
