You would probably have got the afternoon session for £65 as they weren't very busy and keen to sign up more drivers. The Clio flatters my driving. It is very good round Blyton and the run through the fast sweeping bends is tremendous fun but very hard on the tyres. I was on Federal RSRs which...
Nice of you to say so. It was quite a fun day but got black flagged for being a bit too enthusiastic chasing the MG on slicks. He got black flagged at same time, the organiser telling us we were "getting a bit stupid". Bit miffed as by that stage we were the only ones on track but it's their...
If you are only doing the odd track day then I doubt you need to change the discs. A lot of people like to change bits on their cars when its not necessary. Spending money on the cars is their hobby. I'm not knocking it, it's just I have someone always asking me if it is really necessary and...
Susan, I had a similar problem a few weeks ago and earlier this week and know how the heart sinks when this happens.
I was lucky and able to find an engine belonging to a forum member which had a history documented on this site for £350. The cambelt had been done less than 2 years /20,000 miles...
I will be along to watch as I only live 3 miles away. I would have liked to do the meeting but only got my car back a couple of days ago after it mangled all its valves and needed a replacement motor. A couple of lads will be along from the East Midlands group and I had suggested to them we have...
Wondered if any one was interested in an informal meet at Blyton Park on monday 4 June where javelin are running a track day? I was too late getting my car back to get an entry in but am going down to watch as there are 3 Clios entered.
Cup_Phil is going down to take some photos of his mate on...
That's interesting. As far as I was aware mine had not been modified either. The 197 boys have a thread about having theirs bored out to 64 so I just assumed that if they were running 60mm the 172s wouldn't be any bigger.
Is anybody running a 172 with a60mm TB?
Mick said the cambelt should be fine as less than 2 years/20k. The auxiliary belt came off my old engine and had only done 500 miles.
Given the cost of doing them is about same as what the engine cost me I didn't think it was worth it.
If I had bought an engine with unknown history then it...
Nothing orher than plugs and fluids. I was very lucky (I hope). Bought the engine from James Baker who had it in his Scenic (well documented on this forum) and was able to hear it running before it came out. Mick at Diamond Motors had done the belts about 18 months earlier and knew ithe engine...
While cleaning my plenum chamber following an engine blow up i noticed that it is fitted with a 64mm throttle body. Is this normal or should it be 60mm?
Update
The Clio is back on the road again at last. Thanks to James Baker for the replacement engine, Mick at Diamond Motors for checking it over and also to everyone on here for your advice. Thanks also to my mate Rob at Rob Boston Racing for swapping it over for me. Despite all the suggestions...
I've just had same problem. Managed to find a replacement engine for £350. Had chance to hear it running before it was taken out. There was quite a bit of history on the car on this forum and Mick at Diamond was able to confirm the belts had been done properly in last couple of years. He quoted...
60. Got my 172 Cup 3 weeks ago to do trackdays. Whenever I went to look at one the seller asked me if I was buying it for someone else! Sadly on my 3rd trackday the engine died so off the road at the moment. Still investigating how to get it fixed as I'm not that mechanical. Brake pads and oil...
Yeah, go on Fred, I know you want to.
Is it really that easy and do I need any special tools other than spanners, socket set, screwdriver and big hammer. I would hate to get half way then find there was some special tool needed from Renault. Also I should add that it is 33 years since I last...
Thanks Phil.
Plan A when I got the car was to keep it standard and just belt it round. 3 track days in 2 weeks so far.
What you suggest sounds sensible but I thought while it's in bits I would do anything simple.
Thanks fellas for the replies so far. Where are Diamond Motors based?
Just been speaking to Rob at Rob Boston Racing who I've known for years. He may be able to have a look at it if he's not too busy prepping race cars. He also reckons it probably has put a valve through the piston, the cambelt...
Gentlemen, I would welcome your advice and suggestions please.
Been on track at Blyton Park today having lots of fun until my engine rattled and then lost all power. I was able to take it out of gear and coast off the track. I turned the key to see if it would restart but just got a clicking...
Silly question maybe but what is a RB?
I am looking to do a couple more track days at Blyton Park before venturing further afield, maybe Cadwell next. I need to acquire a bit more expertise first as in trying too hard I do have the odd spin. At Blyton, as there is a lot of run off, that's...
Thanks, Melissa. Are you enjoying the 182? My 172 cup is costing me a few bob after a track day at Blyton Park. Brakes, tyres and windscreen :-( Do you track yours?
Hi, Sean, good to see another local on board. I joined a couple of weeks ago having just bought a 172 Cup. I live in Laughton, north of Gainsborough - very handy for Blyton Park. Maybe see you there sometime.
Batesey, I will have to catch up with you sometime and have a look at your motor.
Thanks for the invite, Phil, but unfortunately can't make May 6th as my son is kart racing that day and I am his mechanic.
You , by the way are about half my age so I must be a golden oldie. Whenever I went to look at a car I was asked if I was buying it for someone else. I am just trying to...
